Forss

It's quite possible that Forss was not quite at the levels required as a centre forward. Hence, him not holding down a consistent place in the team. Huge credit to Carrick for looking at him and seeing different qualities in him. Qualities that maybe suit him more playing slightly wider on the right.
I think that does highlight the lack of flexibility in our previous managers approach to the game / the role of players.
I did notice on Saturday that Forss and Chuba were interchanging their positions as well. When Archer dropped deeper or was pushed out to the left, Forss would fill that central role and Chuba migrated more to the right.
Little things like that, we must be a nightmare for oppo defenders to play against.
Anyway, back to Forss - really pleased for him. He's looking a top quality champo player these days. Our recruitment team can find that players, but it's how our coach uses them which ultimately proves them a success or not. That's why it's so important to have a Carrick as a coach, and not a Wilder.

Carrick has us playing with a fairly flexible front four, Hackney’s also a forward thinking player as is Giles, blimey even the keeper looks to be creative. Means we’ll create chances but also be under pressure, particularly against the better teams. Exciting to watch.

I don't think it was even that. I think he believed he was better than us, but we were the best offer he had.

Any talk of a long term plan and being "all in" etc was just because he knew that's what the chairman and the fans wanted to hear. His real objective was to be a premier league manager again, as soon as possible.

I do think he believed he could do that with us, but he wanted to try and do it as a quick fix. So he wanted us to gamble on players with no resale value or for high transfer fees. Players who could play his system and make an immediate impact in his mind. If it didn't work it wasn't going to be his mess to sort out.

Obviously Scott and co. had other ideas, Wilder had a bit of a sulk and started looking elsewhere for a better opportunity to get back to where he thought he belonged.

Obviously that's just conjecture, but Scott has confirmed Wilder had a wandering eye and Wilder publicly moaned about recruitment so I reckon it's probably not too far off the mark.
He probably did have an eye on the Bournemouth job at the time and the club probably reached the point where they were hopeful he'd take it on.

To some it may not have seemed a major thing but the club not wishing him a happy birthday via social media was probably a subtle attempt to send him a message.

Like Akpom, Forss is a revelation under Carrick. Alongside transforming other players like Smith, Hackney and McGree - he has got us two outstanding goals scorers playing at the top of their ability. Archer just adds even more - long may it continue
