Gambling Firms to be Banned - Shirt Sponsorship

Bolton going a step further, hope its something we can look into. It should be possible to go to a match without having gambling pushed onto you at every opportunity. Going to the match for someone who is trying to stop must be absolute hell

I think it's fantastic that Bolton are doing that, but it's also got to be pointed out that they don't have any gambling sponsors right now anyway

If they're being banned from 2023 regardless, then they're making a statement without actually being impacted.

Their main shirt sponsor is Home Bargains.

I doubt many people, except the old, rely on stadium bookies to place their bets either.

Overall I agree with this - money will be missed by clubs but it comes tainted. I get the impression the number of problem gamblers is increasing and its often the most vulnerable who are affected.

I wish all shirt sponsors were a thing of the past ,but can't ever see that changing now.

I hate to see any shirt used as an advertising hoarding and refuse to buy anything with an advert emblazoned across it.
My advert free shirt I got when we didn't have a sponsor for a short time is getting tired now and won't be replaced. Will have to be a tee shirt instead.

Good

Hopefully this is the 1st step in the total removal of gambling sponsorship and advertising

Additionally is this just the front of the shirt ban and so the back can be used?

To my knowledge Barcelona were the last big team to hold out putting sponsors on their shirts. When they did introduce them they did it sneaky, with a charity first to make it seem more palatable.

Mind you they probably shouldn't be put forward as a beacon for fiscal responsibility

I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever paid a blind bit of notice to any shirt sponsor of any team.
A few seasons back I was asked to name all the PL teams shirt sponsors and I was shocked at how many I did know. I think it is one of those subconscious things you take in.
