Gareth Southgate given freedom of Middlesbrough

My sympathies lie with the billuons living in abject poverty. Those with no access to health care. Those living on constant fear in lawless cesspit. Etc etc etc.
I have little sympathy for someone who was looked after very well by MFC then did the dirty on them.

'Pushed into the managers job' Jesus wept.
Surely if anyone 'did the dirty' then it was MFC to Southgate rather than the other way round.

Asserting his right to the correct financial settlement was maybe a self esteem thing as much as a financial thing.

I don't begrudge Southgate a penny for the positive impact he had at the club over a number of years.

As for your comment about him “doing the dirty on Boro”, I think you need to reflect on what really happened, who did what to whom and, your ridiculous choice of words.
I'm reflecting on nothing. Just because he's had success with England does not change the opinion I had of him at the time he left under a cloud.
I take what happened from the statements of the man at the helm, Steve Gibson. He was so incensed at Southgates behaviour he went public on the circumstances of Southgates leaving....... very very unusual for Gibson.
I save my sympathies for those in I consider worthy of it. Southgates is not one of them.
That's simply my opinion and that won't change. I get that you don't like it and I'm OK with that.

It isn’t about what I like and don’t like ffs, incredible 😂

It was merely about how a human being was personally affected. Having done a quick google, the gazette reported his comments that I first posted earlier, when he opened up to Prince William last year.

When unexpected trauma strikes, your bank balance should not dictate your worthiness for empathy and support.

I really don't care. He lost his job as have billions of people around the world.
The difference with him is that he is and was financially secure unlike the vast majority of others who lost their jobs.
Not nice for him personally but I don't know the man so......... so what.

Freedom of a city is a military honour that allows military personnel to march into a town with drums beating and their insignia flying. No free pianos I am afraid.

Not always. Originally it was conferred on serfs to recognise their freedom. The military honour was to recognise freedom of entry As you say. Freedom of the City of London has no military connection. It’s the Corporation of London’s civic recognition for craftspeople and now extended to anybody acknowledging their deeds and contributions to society. I understand Gareth already has that.

We live and learn I always assumed it always referred to the military honour in the same way a knighthood does. In any event I don't think you get free pianos.

This all seems a bit late in the day. I can't imagine he will be gushing with pride given the way things ended at Boro.

Personally I never agreed with his appointment, but I certainly did not agree with the timing of his sacking. I thought that he was actually starting to show some competence and the players seemed to be responding. Huge mistake by Gibson.

The one little room in the borough he's not allowed in is the managers office at the Riverside !
Sorry Gareth I couldn't resist it 😉
