Jenrick on lbc this morning asked by Ferrari who’s normally a cheerleader, what makes him think the British Public think this is the biggest issue and want this kind of policy. His answer was “I talk to a lot of people” even Ferrari wasn’t buying it.

We should all be more Gary.

Except when his salary is mentioned of course.

He’s also right, we’ve now got a situation where the British government are knowingly breaking international laws on human rights (Braverman admitted it herself) whilst demonising a public figure who dares to question it.

We used to be the good guys, now we’re aligned with Belarus and Russia on asylum seekers. Says it all really.

This is an unbelievable story, a man who has his own twitter account that people choose to follow or not is possibly going to be sanctioned for expressing his opinion!

This is scary. If he did on live on MOTD fair enough how far has free speech fallen in this country we may be about to find out.

Lineker is dominating the news today, I wonder why that is and not those who caused him to say what he said.

LBC was ridiculous this morning, absolutely going for him and when they had callers who agreed with his comments, the presenter just shut them down.

Pretty much everyone will have a social media policy in their contract, whatever line of work you are in. If you do anything on social media that the company deems to be controversial (or that people might think they are acting in an official capacity and that is the views of the organisation) then there will be reprimands.

I don't always agree with Lineker speaking out and at times he can be hypocritical when talking about the wealth of others when being a tax dodger etc but in the main he's a public figure expressing his views like anyone else. What he is saying isn't illegal and he should be free to comment on anything which is a public discussion. He's a football presenter so he works on the media side of things, not the news, so it is different rules anyway because he doesn't need political access so isn't open to being influenced.

I bet plenty on this board would be happy to see him fronting Question Time instead of MOTD, even on his huge salary!

If his employers choose to pay him a huge salary that is for him and them. I don't begrudge it, and it doesn't make him a bad person or a hypocrite. Met him once, the reason he was there was to show support for his friend. He didn't need to do it, but chose to.

He's not perfect none of us are, but his heart is in the right place and he's been putting his lucrative job on the line for the betterment of other people, that should be applauded.

I don’t disagree. I’m just making the point that he usually receives pelters on here, except when he tweets something about the government. It’s almost as if people are happy to see him have a big profile as long as he agrees with them.
