Gentry Day for PNE this year is at Boro

North End Gentry day is a fan organised event and is in memory of any Preston North End follower or player who may have passed away in the last 12 months.

They have voted for Boro to be the location this year and many will be wearing bowler hats and some in suits, so hope that Boro fans greet them well on this annual event.

I think this is a marvellous idea and as of yesterday they had sold over 1500 tickets for Saturday so will be a good turnout.

That's a good idea.

I think it's probably better than our sporadic applause at certain minutes where half the crowd don't know who or what they're clapping for.
I'm starting to find this irritating, it seems to be nearly every home game now. My cunning plan is to live beyond 95, you can organise a round of applause to an empty stadium. Somehow it seems appropriate.

It is pretty much every match.

I don't blame the people requesting it, it's just an opportunity to celebrate their loved ones, but there are always fans sadly dying.
There were actually two requests for a minute's applause that I saw before Tuesday's match, the second one didn't seem to be picked up, which is probably going to be a bit sad for the family that pushed for it after hearing another done in that same match.

I think it would be nice to adopt a day, and invite fans to submit photos of their loved ones that had died that could be displayed on the big screen on that day.

Maybe it should be the second to last home game of the season (probs too tight to get something organised this year) with a large ovation of some kind at the 90 minute mark

A lot of clubs have a minute's applause before the first game of a new season - or the first game of a new year. Have we not done something similar before?
Swansea City had a really respectful memorial to all those Swans fans that died from Covid - the number of names on the wall really brings it home to you. I know I am going slightly off subject but I wonder if we have a record of Boro fans that died from Covid.

I'd agree with that. Those not on social media, and that includes myself, usually have no idea what it's about 90% of the time.
Not that I'm complaining, I just think that there's better ways that would feel less routine.

Lovely touch but give the man a ruler, spirit level or something!!

No offense but I don't think that looks particularly respectful, it looks pretty horrible to me. Like its just been pinned on the back wall of the bogs. Surely they could have found a nicer spot for it!?

It is on the outside of the stadium around the corner from a bigger similar memorial for fans RIP
I can see why it might look like a toilet block etc but it is the lower section of the main stand. Their stadium is built in the colour of the team, white.

Actually the Swansea memorial made me think - over 100 (108) Swansea fans on that wall that lost their live to Covid 19.

Why should they. Not every is on social media. What was confusing the other night was that I read there would be on for a 64 year old lifelong fan who died. It's totally crazy not sure whether it's club sanctioned by the club or announced pre kick off.

A minutes applause for someone who passed used to be a novelty, but not anymore. Half the stadium are usually unaware so it becomes sporadic and confusing. Personally, I would rather have a dedicated minute at the start or end of the season. Atm it is so random meaning Boro fans might have died but not had their names put forward and consequently loved ones miss out on the applause.

This seems unfair. One dedicated minute for ALL fans will ensure they are ALL remembered and respected.

Should be at the start of the new season or at the end of a season. Families get in touch with the club and give them the name of their relative who has passed. Their names read out or a display on the big screen with pictures etc. before kick off. Think you’d get a much better response from the crowd

It should be at the start of each season I think. And make a proper deal of it - dedicate the match programme to them or something like that. Get their photos on the big screen. To be honest for me is just want the whole ground doing my ' come on boro' really loud at kick off.

Just an observation, but some of the recent requests have actually been for people not yet deceased, but in hospital/suffering ailments etc. Agree there does seem to be social media requests very frequently recently.
