Gestede Retires

Had more ability than he could be bothered to show. That is the real shame. One or two performances for us showed what he should have been capable of. Did not fulfil his potential and seemingly lacked the gumption or sheer hard work. It annoys me just to think about him.

I can remember him starting the season off well under Monk. I remember Anthony Vickers wrote an article about him in the Gazette, predicting that he'd become a cult hero.

Next game (PNE at home I think) he got injured and that was pretty much it for him, until Pulis came in and he actually put in a couple of decent performances, got injured during a home game vs Hull and don't think he actually contributed anything of note after that.

Towards the end we honestly could have pulled out one of the lamp posts outside the Riverside, stuck it on the pitch and it would have been more use to us than Gestede.

clearly couldnt be arsed putting himself out.... my take is was happy to milk the club as he had a bit of previous with the club when at Blackburn with abuse from our fans...... Best I saw him play was in a preseason V Pools when Woody took over , He scored and looked comfortable against a non-league oppo

Sometimes there are players that kind of become embolic of a whole era. I don't think embolic is the word I am looking for. I'm not even sure if it's a word. Symbolic? Emblematic? Harbinger?

I don't know. Anyway they kind of sum up a malaise and characterise a sickness enveloping the club when the good times are ending. Like the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Gary O'Neill fulfilled that role. So did Gestede.

he wasn't very good at Blackburn, if you see his goals from that season most of them went in deflected off his ****

He just had a purple patch over a year that made him a multi millionaire, the other 12 or 13 seasons he was being overpaid he just strolled around
like an oil tanker with a dreadful technique looking half arsed

He was an absolute disgrace every time he played. Must be one of the worst players we have had. Really hope the club never goes back to these type of signings

4 years of 30k a week with Boro.... Hardly suprising. Great money and nearly every Saturday off. Easy life.

I'd still argue pound for pound our worst signing in recent years. I'd imagine over 10mil with wages. Then fecks off for nothing. Oh and let's not forget the 6 league goals. He's a CF (used loosely)

Apparently we rejected a decent offer from Leeds for him? I can't think of any reason as to why we'd reject any offer. Also two birds one stone.... Sell them a dud 😂

He used to live over Sadberge or Redmarshall I think, and a lad I know used to cut his grass. He had a massive garden and this lad needed to charge him more as it was a big job. Think it was £25 per month instead of £20, but Gestede refused to pay him and said he’d get someone else.

Please don't envy him.
He will spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder fearful that one day the fraud squad will find him and charge him for impersonating a professional footballer.

When it comes to wages collected v's minutes on a football pitch, he's probably got a higher rate of pay than Ronaldo.
