Goalkeeper situation

Finances are going to play a major part in the whole recruitment process, the ideal scenario would be for Steffen to return but that would probably take up too much of the budget.
It would make sense to look at Sol preseason and hopefully our academy could yet again prove its worth and save us millions moving forward.

Brynn played a full season at Swindon & Zach Hemming just completed a season at Kilmarnock... I'm sure both will be looked at - Patterson at Sunderland has shown how a good prospect of a keeper can turn in a quality performance over a season & establish himself..

I fully expect we'll be looking for a proven keeper though just can't see us spending too much an a fee, we have Roberts who is experienced & two young prospects that have both played competitive matches..

I just don't think keeper will be a position we're looking to resolve initially - strikers & attacking / creative players - for me..

If we can't get Steffen back, I'm hoping we give Brynn a chance in pre-season.

Obviously up to Carrick to decide whether he's good enough, but it would be nice to see another local lad being given a chance.
Hopefully he could take it.

I thought he did ok in the few games he played.

At fault for the winner against Barnsley, personally think he should have saved 2, if not all 3 of the goals against Cardiff.

Did well against Watford despite being on the losing side, didn't have much to do against Sunderland or Swansea.

Small sample size, of course.

Roberts has had a full season at the club and training with Steffen. Maybe we see him as a number two, but would be great if either him or Brynn are ready to step up to be number 1. I don't think we'll do what we did in 2008/09 though and go into the season with two keepers who aren't ready or good enough to be first choice.

Steffen was pivotal to the way we played last season, and we need a keeper to be able to play out from the back if we are going to continue to progress.

We won't wait until pre season to decide for sure. I'm pretty sure a goalkeeper with experience will be on the list. It's too vital to how we play to see how Brynn does in pre-season. I can see Brynn being the number 2 if he impresses though.

Remember the U21 game against Sunderland away earlier this season which we won 7-6. Roberts was in goal that night and it was one of the worst goalkeeping performances I’ve ever seen. Carrick was at that game.

Exactly. He was abysmal. He’s nowhere near good enough sick of reading about people saying give him a chance he’s no 2 for a reason. If he wants to play he will have to leave

Looking from afar i think coburn and brynn started well but tailed off second half of the season which suggests theyre not ready to be trusted a whole season.

Brynn tailed off and couldn't be trusted for a full season??? Swindon certainly didn't think so:

Thats league 2 standard. I live not far from swindon and overall its been a dissapointing season for them. Even hartlepool beat them when they struggled second half of the season. Trusting him at championship level is a different matter. Hes very inexperienced in goalkeeping terms at this level. Still developing is all im saying and is not ready to be number one yet.

Only saw Roberts at Bishop Aukland last summer. Distribution seemed decent but if the rest of his game isn’t good then we obviously need better.
