Grant Leadbitter's Grief (Athletic article)

I seem to remember Leadbitter scoring against us years ago and doing that shhh finger gesture to us. As is typical of tribal fans from that moment I couldn’t stand him and would easily have named him in my most disliked footballers and probably did on forums like this...

Then he signs for us and I wasn’t particularly happy. But everything he did from that moment won me over and when he left he was easily one of my all time favourite players. I’m sure many Boro fans have had a similar journey. He’s a true leader and someone who gets what being a fan is about. It’s awful to read about his struggles and I hope he finds the help and strength to deal with them, I would like to think that winning over fans of a rival club would help him realise he’s not alone and he has a lot of friends just down the road. All the best Grant.

Thank you for posting that and giving me the opportunity to read it. As someone who already had the utmost respect for Leadbitter I didn't think it was possible to think even more of him. I have him bracketed with Tony Mowbray now (for several reasons) and wish him all the best this season.
