Off to see them tonight, just 34 years after seeing them break through at Donnington ‘88

anyone go last night? Up to scratch?

I saw them at Download, a few years back. Thought they were decent but not a patch on when I saw them in 92. Axel was nowhere as bad as some of the videos on YouTube.

I'm a huge Gn'R fan and first saw them in Gateshead in 1992 and it was top class (great support from Faith No More and Soundgarden too).

Subsequently saw them at the Arena in Newcastle around 2006 which was bang average and was really just Axl Rose and a few others. Went to see them at Slane Castle in 2017 I think it was and also saw them at the Olympic Stadium around the same time. Saw them in Mannheim in 2018 and also saw Axl fronting AC/DC at the Olympic Stadium too.

Over the years his voice has deteriorated of course and doesn't have the same range though this happens to most front men. However, based on the more recent gigs they were still a fantastic live act and are usually on stage for around 2 and a half to 3 hours a time which is much longer than most bands.

Personally, I can't wait to see them again next week.

I went last night, other than the sound Bing **** for the first few songs which they sorted, they where absolutely brilliant.
That's the 5th time I've seen em and they've been superb everyone.

I have an interest I suppose. Two former Psychedelic Furs' have been in the band for a while now, Richard Fortus and Frank Ferrer. In fact, Fortus did a great production job on the Furs' comeback album a couple of years ago and he regularly guests for them on stage whenever they play in St. Louis.

I was at the 88 Donington gig when the two lads died in the crush. Probably the most scared I’ve been in my life that day. It was absolutely rammed, you literally could not move an I’m surprised only two were killed that day. In those days Donington was one big seething mass, no barriers to split the crowd like today and you could basically get right up to the stage - your chances of getting back out to go for a slash say or drink, or something to eat were basically zero. Very sad day although we didn’t know anyone has actually died. The GNR set stopped a few times as they pulled people out an Axl requested everyone take a step back or words to that effect. Just a shame it took two deaths for them to look at how to make the arena safe enough for a large crowd to attend safely.

Yep. Staying on your feet was literally a matter of life and death. RIP rockers 🤘

I love guns n roses. Haven't bought tickets for any of the gigs. I've never been to a stadium gig. Just don't see the appeal. Miles and miles away from the stage. People just standing around. Faint sound of band in the distance. Hundred quid a ticket.

I fully agree. I will never understand why bands prefer stadium shows to arenas, apart from the obvious that you clean more in a stadium. The sound quality in an arena is light years ahead of stadium shows
