Harry Maguire

I feel a bit sorry for - I didn’t watch the game last night and maybe he made some mistakes but it just seems a lot of people out to get him. Yes he’s probably not worth the money that was paid for him but he doesn’t set the prices. The character assassination that’s been going on for months is hardly likely to make him play better.

Where’s the bekind movement when you need them( or does that only come into play when you’ve been hounded to suicide) absolutely atrocious and the media just seems to be getting worse!

It's not his fault we have a manager in charge who doesn't know we have a great deal better CB's available.

He was having a good game yesterday until his mistake. After that he completely lost his head unsurprisingly with all the **** he gets. As he said he was in the team of the tournament at the euros and for me the press have completely turned people against him.

He is having a tough time surely fans getting behind him would help. Booing before the kick off is appalling.

Just seems like people love to pile on. Society today is awful.

Agree, I think his pass distribution was excellent especially to the wings. When I look back at the likes of Rio and John Terry, I honestly don't believe they were any better than McGuire. Agin, I just think our media loves to make one guy a pariah just so the have something negative to write or talk about.

Agreed, it’s ridiculous the amount of abuse he gets! Admittedly his club form has been patchy since his move to Man U, but he’s hardly been playing in a ‘90’s Milan back 4’ since he arrived there. The Man U defence of last season even managed to make Varane look average at best.

In a nutshell, he’s good on the ball, good in the air, but slow.

He’s got a few ingredients that mean he’s a prime candidate for abuse.

He plays for Man U.
He’s is/was their captain.
Bought for silly money.
Incident in Greece.
Not good looking.
Boring Haircut. (No offence to anyone with same do, mine is similar).
He’s slow. (Everyone loves a quick player).

Feel sorry for him but why’s he been put in that position

Out of form end of last season has regained it this season and lost his place in the team. A good manager doenst put him in the firing line and recognises when players should be rightly dropped

I think he is a world class player.
Something is very wrong for him to put in performances like he has been.
Perhaps that situation in Greece is behind it all.
Whatever it is I hope he can pull through it all and get back to his best.
I would love to see him win a world cup.

Good premier league centre half when playing against 75% of the teams.
Up against the best and International class strikers he's not up to it. Too many mistakes and too easy to get past.

It definitely won't have helped his confidence that he's become a target for memes and trolls.

Won't help that he plays in the Man United environment either, millions of glory supporters around the globe hurling abuse for the smallest mistake.
Yeah, shame they're not more like our fans. Stick by the players, managers and owner through thick and thin....

Phwoar, dunno about that like. That generation of centre backs were out of this world. There were CBs being left out of the squad then who would be first name on the England teamsheet now - and Rio was the best of the bunch.

There’s no hiding place at Man United and England can get very toxic, unfairly so. Like you say, there’s always one who gets targeted. I do feel for him becoming a bit of a meme, which is just childish as he’s basically a good Premier League defender and has been excellent for England. Must be brutal for your confidence.

He’s out of form, limited and has been exposed at United because they’ve been so poor. Agree that a good manager might take him out of the firing line, but not quite sure where that leaves him if he’s not playing for club or country. And it’s not like we have Ferdinand, Terry, Woodgate, Southgate, Ledley King and Sol Campbell to choose from. They’d all walk into this team, that generation was different class.

As Southgate has consistently said Maguire has been excellent for England in major tournaments. He was brilliant in 2018 and again last summer. He's good on the ball usually, is a leader and a goal threat from corners.

There's no doubt the lad is suffering at the moment and regardless how mentally strong he is, having the media jump all over him can't be easy.

If England are to successful at the World Cup they need Maguire in the team and confident. The same applies to Pickford, Rice, Sterling and Kane. Those 5 are the mainstays of the team.

By the way; Maguire is no where near as good as Rio Ferdinand. In fact, he's miles behind that fantastic generation of English centre backs.

I think the booing before the game (when McGuire is announced) is as much for Southgate (if not more so) than Maguire himself. Some England fans are annoyed that Southgate sees Maguire is undroppable, despite poor current form.

I was at Wembley on Monday night, and there was some decent pro Maguire chanting going on during the game, which may not have come across on TV. (The "he drinks the vodka, he drinks the Jaeger" song). I was pleased to hear it, because he could do with the confidence boost of knowing that many fans are still behind him.

That right there is what is wrong with this England side WE DONT NEED any of them.

Yes they are all key members of the squad but we have credible alternatives ( if not better) for all of them bar kane. None of them should be automatic based on reputation alone.

Btw BELLIGHAM is the key man in that squad this kid is the real deal and we should be building the side around him.
