Have you ever worked with someone who

Mate, I've lived in Oz for the past fifty years and another three years when a child.
Lived and worked in Sydney most of my working life until retiring where i now live on the gold coast
Queensland.
Lol, was only joking. Nice place Oz. I’ve been. Just wanted to slip that in there. 😁

It was fabulous mate.
Some time ago I posted on here how I broke down in tears after the Engineer took us to a reservoir in the eastern suburbs to watch
the lights of the Olympic rings get turned on after we had spent months at night time putting it all together and erecting it.

The bridge has got Dorman Long Middlesbrough, the name of my football team on almost every piece of steel and girder and others
with Skinningove.

To stand there several miles away in the early morning darkness and having turned off all the other lights on the bridge, off ,and watching
the lights inside the rings come on was just a tad too much for me. I was so proud, not only of the job that we had done but proud of
all the other English men and steel that had built this bridge which is an icon to all aussies and my roots came flooding back to me as
well as the tears.

All the other guys were whooping it up and I was stood there trembling and crying my eyes out.
The boys were all putting their arms around me trying to console me and asking what the hell's wrong with me.
It was difficult at that moment of time to even contemplate explaining my thoughts about my father, my football team
all those other men and my roots.
How could they possibly ever understand?
Blimey Redblood you’ve got me filling up reading that 😥😎

Sorry about that mate.

I'm sure though that all of us Boro boys that are so proud of our history our football team and our roots would've been
totally overwhelmed as I was at that moment and would've reacted as I did rather than whooping it up.

P.S. If you do come over one day and you decide to take a ferry ride to sail under the bridge, don't lick your lips
as you go under the road deck. It may well not be sea spray that you are licking.

The only toilets on the structure itself are at ground level at the bottom of the pylons.
There was a hundred or so working on the bridge in my time there and I can't ever recall anybody ever saying
" I'm off to the toilet, back in an hour ".

Just keep that in mind mate.

My boss is not a braggart but he does have a story for everything. He is a Kiwi and a fairly nice bloke but By Christ he is dull. No matter what the situation, explaining some technical issue that needs to be resolved he will come out with a story linked to an uncle. If he is speaking to the whole department, again outcomes a story from when he first got into management or something from his childhood. Problem is that most of them have nothing to do with the topic being discussed and are almost always mind numbingly dull and several minutes long. If I am in a meeting with him, I always factor in a good ten minutes extra so they don‘t overrun. Drives me mad!!!

Yeah, and the day they left I actually began to enjoy going to work again.

Best way to deal with them is to just totally blank them. Make zero effort to get them involved and if they try to make convo with you, just put your headphones in (if you can, obv).

Watching them go and try to do the same with someone else feels like you're narrating a David Attenborough doc.

• Manages to get a brag of some sort into almost every exchange
• Only wants to talk about themself and their experiences 99% of the time and shows no interest whatsoever in you or yours
• Has had the last laugh/upper hand in almost every situation they've ever been in
• Whatever subject the conversation involves, they have a 'mate' or a family member who specialises in it
• Is happy trying to belittle others but god forbid anyone points out their shortcomings
• Is so blissfully lacking in self-awareness that when you're telling them anything about yourself, they immediately shut it down by reeling off their stories instead (see second point)
• Is lazy but thinks they graft harder than anyone else
• Sulks if they have to graft
• Wants to do anything but the job they're employed to do, even when it's clearly a priority
• Has four main topics of conversation - their new baby/their new car/their old jobs/their house
• Thinks their 'banter' is brilliant when it's actually pi$$-poor

What is it with these people? How do they not realise that they drain the life out of every situation instead of enhancing it like they think they're doing? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄
It is called being a narcissist

There's usually some deep insecurity within them and a lot of self doubt which is why even average things feel like major achievements to them.
I knew a bloke who was a lot like this a few years back - not as bad but lots of the same traits, he had a nervous breakdown a couple of years ago, he's now a really nice fella

Worked with a guy who was a convincing Walter Mitty he gaslighted a lot of people. It come out in the wash that he moved in with people, old neighbours, AA members claiming he had no family as his Dad was terminally ill in Scotland.

He claimed to have had trials with Nottingham Forrest when the closest he got was a trip to centre parks.

He also claimed to have played professional rugby for London Irish and he was part of the England set up. He was a 5 foot 4 dwarf tall and wide and was garbage at rugby and had no involvement with the said set ups.

He went missing and he contacted the press himself. The police got involved and his dad was 7 miles from where he lived.

When people started to challenge his lies he turned against people them. A nasty piece of work. His actions caused a lot of damage to people’s mental health.

He got suspended from his employment and all sorts of stuff was found on his computer. He left the area no doubt to gaslight and lie and ruin people after being sacked.

As mentioned narcissists don’t have any empathy are expert liars and manipulators. When you out the narcissist you are enemy number one and the narcissist will recruit flying monkeys to do the dirty work for them.

The best way to deal with said people is to be a grey rock. Blend in and don’t cause any ripples.

The main reason I went self-employed .... sick of the office crap, the stupid stories... just had enough
