Heating Came On For 1st Time Since February

We popped ours on for the first time on Sunday am. It was set to 21ºC and only went on for 30 mins but took the edge off.

I’ve had it on a few times in the last few days and I’m normally one to tell others just to put an extra layer on.

Looking at getting some of the Hive radiator valves so I can control which rooms rather than the whole house.

Anyone had any experience of getting those set up? I’ve already got the thermostat.

We have hive trvs in most rooms. I have the dining room, 2 spare bedrooms and kitchen set to 15c. My wife cannot understand why every room isnt boiling when you walk into them.

Are they fairly easy to setup? I think some of my radiator valves aren’t ‘compatible’ according to the Hive website.

central heating not coming on in my house this winter, can't afford it. I'm not a banker.
Shorts have come off, thermals and trousers on. Have collected a mass of wood on my dog walks, so the burner will be on in the lounge when it gets colder. Sit and watch telly with the mrs with a blanket, it's fine.
I can work in the van and put that burner on during the day, also has a gas fire running on bottles.
Just having to improvise rather than pay these thieving profiteering bast***s

Put mine on thismorning when i got in from nights ready for the kids to get up for school - When i checked the smart meter half hour later it cost me £1.30 for half hour of heating

Agreed. Been in a few time
It's a fantastic building but a bit run down, it could be a 5 Star hotel with about a billion quid spent on it...
Friendly place with cheap drinks... Nice sat out front in the sun......I'm in 👍
Been in a few times over the last couple of months. Nice outside when sunny as you say.👍

I find that the kids don't feel the cold, never mention it, so that's fine by me, and I don't put the radiators on intheir rooms. having spent 6 winters living in a van I'm quite resilient, too. Just have to convince the mrs...

Feet always get cold, though. Always wear two pairs of socks, and even that's not enough. Will try slipper socks, but the dog chews them. I suppose I could train him to lie on my feet.
Any cold feet remedies?

I will be investing in a pair of fingerless gloves so I can still read a book but without getting frost bite.

15 degrees in most rooms of the house this morning but I'm not reaching for the heating yet. Will test the boiler and heating on full whack for an hour one day soon just to test the system but after that , it won't be going on til mid November hopefully. Last year according to a local weather station it didn't get winter style cold (day temps dropped to 6) until Nov 20th. Today , it's body warmer/gilet territory for me. My second line of defence after that is thermals and gloves, still no heating.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could heat your house from a remote line from the Sahara desert! The desert is largely an unused landmass on the planet governments could all put a few Billion into a solar project which could not only supply the UK but probably most of Europe and Africa.

Heating hasn't gone on here yet. House hasn't actually dropped below 21 yet either according to the thermostat. We're in a good position that we can heat our upstairs and downstairs separately too, when we will need to put it on. New build with loads of insulation (y)

I remember staying with my gran in Stockton in the middle of winter in the early 70s. No heating except open fire in the evening in the living room and heat from the oven. Sheets of ice inside the bedroom windows in the morning. Nobody complained and they lived to a ripe old age. Those were the days. And the football was better.

No, they didn't. There were loads of excess deaths in the days before central heating. There's nothing 'good old days' or nostalgic about a drop in living standards.

Liberty bodices are getting brushed off for me and the wife. If that doesn't warm me up enough, I'll ask the wife to talk a bit more, that'll warm the room up in no time.
