Hermes destroyed my parcel

I seem to have been very lucky. Don't send many packages but about 20 arrived ok and every delivery I've had from them have arrived. The only issue I had was a return to Amazon that they said (on the web status) they'd delivered but Amazon said they hadn't received. The 30 day return period was counting down but it arrived in time for my refund. I couldn't work out how to contact them during that wait which wasn't helpful.

And as if by magic, in response to my post last week about getting 2 x delivereis on time. I just got an email saying a parcel had been delivered, with a photo of a parcel sitting on a complete strangers doorstep!!

Luckily I recognized the front of the house as one further up the street so went and knocked, they had my parcel!

My fave delivery experience has to be during the first lockdown. I think it was Hermes too. Needed an emergency keyboard as mine had broken. My mate ships me one. It doesn't turn up but I get a message saying it was delivered to the building and signed for. I ask for the photo evidence of the delivery and get a picture of the keyboard and a pavement. I go down and talk to the building concierge: he says he saw the guy take a picture then put it straight back in the van. Queue a few irate phone calls and 20 mins later the same guy and the same van comes back. He says "oh another guy delivered this morning and has van broke down so I'm bringing it". Which was a complete and utter fabrication. If I didn't inform the company that I had a witness and potential CCTV to what had happened I reckon I'd not have seen it.

I used to use hermes all the time a couple of years ago. Cheap and cheerful and never had a problem. Got to say I haven't sent anything since. I was at work last week, the woman who delivers for hermes who users her car. She came storming in and said did u put a complaint in about me. I said no, she said you better not, then turned around and drove off. As for royal mail, sometimes I'm sure they are eating my post, sometimes I don't get any for ages, other times, its absolutely mangled

Never had any issues with deliveries we get from hermes, they wait till i come to the door then take a photo. usually same couple of delivery drivers who are pretty good, although the girl does just laugh awkwardly when i try to exchange pleasantries with her!

I once opened the front door to take the dog out for a walk and surprised the 5hit out of a Hermes delivery driver who was putting a "sorry you weren't in when we tried to deliver your parcel" type card.

He had a stack of cards, was in an old Fiesta with absolutely zero parcels onboard.

I wont buy from a seller that uses Hermes if I can at all help it. If I am buying something valuable (financial or otherwise) I will often contact the seller and ask them who they use.

I know that people do have lots of issues with hermes but I've sent and received hundreds of packages so far and never had a single issue.

I've had one item go missing, I sent a photo of front and back of the confirmation card and was refunded within a week

Our courier is really good

Just got an email from Hermes:

"We tried to deliver your parcel today but you weren't in."

Except that I've been in all day, the doorbell does work, and there has been no music or TV on to prevent me hearing it.

How this company is still in business is beyond me.

I got the same e mail and I haven't even ordered anything from them

I had something delivered by Hermes last week and the delivery guy just opened my front door and put the parcel on the bottom stair. I got to the top of the stairs and asked what he was doing and he said 'Sorry mate I thought this was a porch' then quickly stepped out again and shut the door.

There is absolutely nothing about the front door that would make you think its a porch in any way whatsoever.

Quick update

No delivery today, despite their promise yesterday to 'deliver the next day' if I wasn't in

I expected this of course, given they're utterly useless.

There is nothing wrong with the entirely sensible new arrangement for avoiding physical contact - it's the sending of the email which falsely claims the addressee has 'signed' for the delivery which is wrong.
That would be automated, the postie doesn't send a personal message to every recipient.

If it's anything like here, they don't even bother to ring the doorbell when they leave anything. I usually find out about it from the camera over the door.
I work for Dpd Local. We have to take a photo of the package. With the door open or the person stood near the package. But no facial photos.
