How to Cook the Perfect Steak

A few years back in my old place of work I once got a takeout order for a 8oz fillet steak cooked well done. A tear crossed my eye as no piece of meat nevermind a steak, should be well done, especially one that is been collected and taken home. But money is money so I dutifully cooked said steak, it took what seemed an age to cook and it was ready bang on the time the customer was due to collect. 10 minutes passed, no sign of the customer, then 15, then 20. At 20 minutes I had this well done fillet of beef wrapped up in cling film and held in the 'shan' cupboard to keep it warm but not to cook it. Waitress rang said customer, no answer. b***r I thought, there's £25 down the drain. After 30 minutes the customer arrived, paid for his order and left.

Rang up the next day demanding a refund as his steak was "too well done". Safe to say he didn't get any joy. 🤣
You should have went our front and hit them with your griddle.

What were they seriously expecting after that time, steak is terrible if you don't eat it straight away after it's rest time.

I feel embarrassed when our lass orders a fillet steak and asks for it well done, I sometimes even debate going and sitting on my own, it would be less embarrassing

I've found over the years the people who order well done fillets are either women or blokes over the age of 60.

my steak must be well done, hate blood pouring out or even pink, maybe its just me wanting my food to be cooked correctly 😂 😂 would get sent back even if there was pink inside too!!!!

I don’t really enjoy fillet steak. Ribeye my go to. Have that medium rare. Would have rare everything else for steaks

Same, the texture of fillet is good, but taste isn't as good as others, and that's more important to me.

The texture of any to me, is better rare, so I like it like that, but not too bloody. Some places don't let it rest and it ends up ******* out blood or with juice all over the plate, not a fan of that.

I can't eat the thick chunks of fat though!

I cooked two rib eyes on my outdoor grill (don’t you dare call it a barbecue if it’s gas 🤣) over the summer and it was the best steak I’d ever cooked myself, 90 seconds either side at 450 degrees Fahrenheit, medium-rare.

Left them rest for an hour before with a dash of olive oil and salt and pepper. If I’m cooking them on a griddle pan, I snip a bit of the fat off and throw that in a pan instead of oil. Unbelievable little tip.

Ribeye tonight, tesco 3x cooked oven chips and spinach (wife insists on something green) and maybe some mushrooms. And a bottle of Barolo.
