Howson - outstanding display

The fans might have chanted for Isiah Jones after his centre for the first goal but Howson's driving run and slide rule pass completely split the Huddersfield defence apart. Time and again he made interceptions before surging forward with the ball and having the vision and ability to make precision passes.
What an exceptional performance. Is there any position he cannot play to a high level?
- by the way we really ought to be singing Watmore's praises loudly as well. Two clinical finishes, a wonderful work-rate and someone that poses a threat to defences every time he gets the ball. Watmore has defences running backwards scared.

They all played well but for me Howson kept on changing the tempo of the game after making interceptions or those tight turns they were all practising pre match. Did anyone notice how the wide men and strikers were rehearsing that first goal precisely before kick, the wide players cutting the ball back for the forwards to plant in the corner first touch?

Howson was brilliant yesterday. The one issue we have and needs sorting is he was knackered after 60 minutes. After 1 run he had his hands on his knees and was telling people not to pass to him.

Obviously Wilder doesn't want to bring Lea Siliki on as that should have been a no brainer in the last 3 games. So for me in January a young loanee to cover Howson is a must if noone at the club can cover him.

I will be interesting when Payero is fit what happens with Tav. Could he play that Howson role if need be?

Great to have Dijksteel back. Hopefully he can stay fit.

Did you go to the game? I was at waverly from 0530 and everything was cancelled!

Howson’s performance had a lot to do with the role he was able to play. He was really positive looking to drive forward and seems to have had the negative shackles removed. Crooks gets better and better, we could really have found something there - credit to the scouting team.

He was better than he normally is. Sadly become a liability anywhere other than RB. He was much better yesterday but still gave the ball away needlessly in the centre and we could / should of been punished for it. Pound for pound a poor signing if you compare the player we thought we were getting to the one we actually got

He was quality yesterday. The thread by the op was about his performance yesterday. You are allowed to praise our players when they play well

Im allowed to contribute whatever I want within reason. You seem to be suggesting that if someone has an opinion thats different its wrong or somehow of less value? I said he was better, thats praise. However, he still gave the ball away poorly in a dangerous position. I.e he performance wasnt without its negatives and not outstanding

It was a brilliant performance. lt Is clear now once you hold an opinion of a player that won’t change. your comments on Crooks were laughable Fair enough you don’t rate Howson but he was quality Yesterday, his part in the opener was huge.

Look you seem to be a little obsessed with me. Nothing ive said is laughable about Crooks, its just opinion and with the greatest of respect; you need to stop taking and reacting to opinions / messages so personally. However; if you got a kick out of it, and my post took you away from your angry typing for a bit, then i'm happy i could help. I rated Howson before he came. Hes had a generally poor career at Boro, yes he was much better yesterday but still had one or two poor moments and one really bad moment as highlighted earlier. Give him a 7/10 but outstanding? Nowhere near

Definitely not obsessed. Just questioning your opinions as they are way over the top negative on certain things and don’t seem to be able to change your opinion when evidence is clear. Crooks has been a fantastic signing and that’s not even up for debate. Howsons Boro career has been up and down and people have mixed opinions on his time here and that’s understandable. But he was brilliant yesterday, hopefully we sign someone in January to challenge him for that position.

Thats not true. Youre not questioning opinions by engaging in discussion, youre just saying im wrong because thats what youve decided before considering whats been said. Thats the opposite of what youre claiming to do. For example; youve said: "Crooks has been a fantastic signing and thats not up for debate" Well it is. Other than 30 minutes yesterday he's been average at best. Couldnt play in the 10 role, CM, DM etc. Played despite an underwhelming start by NW becaise he was one of his boys. I'll change my opinion if/ when Crooks can play like that for more than half hour and consistently puts in better performances. Youre judging Crooks on the type of player youre hoping he can be not on the one he necessarily is at this time

He had a great game to be fair, I’m usually one of his critics as he too often just lumps it up and over him but on Saturday he stuck to playing it on the ground more and it was noticeable. Soon as he turned on the ball for the first I had a feeling it would end in something good.

He might find it tough to perform like that every game due to demands on his body [hes 34 in May] - but he said in his interview online last week - he steps up to the challenge and makes sure he keeps fit.
Hes one of those players who uses his nouse and experience to motivate and help others - but can still put a good physical shift in.
When you look at the contribution of Bamba - he is pivotal in defence - he may not move as quickly as he did 10 years ago - but experience counts for a lot.
