Hull City Now Moaning About Slands Away Allocations

Sunderland's away allocation is a joke, so they're right to complain.

Fair play to the Hull owner for that gesture though.

Did I imagine this, or was there not a plan several years back to mandate at least some of the away support being at pitch level?

Now it clearly hasn't been implemented; is it still in the pipeline?

Wasnt that at PL grounds? But then some clubs get exemption such as Newcastle with their excuse that the grounds aren't designed for that and would be a safety issue.

Came into force from around 2016.

It's odd that Sunderland would rather give tickets to Sunderland fans for free than sell them to away supporters. You'd think they would want the extra revenue. It's not like the stadium is selling out.

It makes no commercial sense, but a good few championship clubs seem to be doing similar recently.
I guess reducing away allocations just makes life easier for the home club, even at the expense of losing revenue. Not so good for away fans and doesn't help the atmosphere.

I suspect it does make commercial sense or they wouldn’t do it. We probably just underestimate the costs and hassles involved in either running a variable away allocation or keeping capacity aside to accommodate the one or two big followings that need it.
