Humza Yousaf new SNP leader

Biggest mistake Labour made was giving up on Scotland. They assumed Scots would vote for them regardless and never really did anything to try and change the situation. SNP came in and at least tried to. Should be a warning about what might happen in some of the 'red wall' seats. Not a given that all those voters will return. They might not vote conservative, but equally might not vote labour (my guess is probably not vote at all).

Labour caused the SNP’s rise there’s no question of a doubt.

Undoubtedly played a part, but the SNP have always been getting a big chunk of the vote in Scotland.

Even before they became the largest party in 2015, they were getting 15-30% of the vote at every General Election.

Even in 1997, the biggest ever Labour win in UK history where they were promising devolution and strong support to Scotland, the SNP still got 22% of the vote in Scotland.

Scottish nationalism has always had a strong appeal.

He comes across as even more nationalistic than Sturgeon whenever i’ve heard him. I hope for the people of Scotlands sake that he focuses his leadership on improving the nations problems first and foremost and has policies to achieve that rather than claiming independence as the silver bullet needed to cure them.
Sounds like a brexiteer🤣

The SNP got 46% of the vote in the last GE in Scotland, yet got 82% of the seats.
Very few of their seats have a decent majority, almost all are marginals.
A strong Labour will make massive holes in them at the next election.
SNP record on devolved functions is poor.
Nippy Sweety got out at exactly the right time.
HY will really really struggle in the role. A very divided party and he has neither the track record or capability to pick up the baton.
For Unionists he is a dream appointment.

Ed milliband has a lot answer for in this regard.

And yet on the Question Time leaders' special, Miliband looked down the camera and told viewers he would rather let a Tory government take office than work with the SNP.

Look at what happened after.

As I said on the other thread apparently police scotland agreed to delay this until after the leadership Campaign.
