I always knew trumps demise would be spectacular but wow

Imagine the outpouring of pious rhetoric if this was Black Lives Matter invading the Senate, smashing windows and destroying property inside?
Where are the police?
They got plenty of guns in the USA to shoot innocent people - but what we have is tantamount to insurrection and the state looks on with impotence !?

I suspect that whoever organised the policing were either not given the funds to beef up security or were complicit in ensuring their wasn't enough policing
 
Each Empire, world leader etc has a finite amount of time to be in that position. Ours finished the end of the 2nd world war, USA's is just starting now. The beginning of the end, and they will take a while to get used to it. The whole world will be watching this, and it will take a long time to disappear from peoples memories, if at all.

Who's next to step up to the plate then, China?

The GOP & elected Republicans are terrified of him, he has ruled by their failure to bring him to book, gaining confidence that he could create a dynasty. The moment they stopped siding with him on the manufactured and baseless fraud claims (though they simply did nothing and thereby are complicit) he turned on them and started a firefight with both the GOP and any republicans who congratulated Biden on his victory.

The GOP and any Republican who has actively supported Trump in this should be stripped of any political position and barred from holding office of any kind.

But hey "This is America" - nothing will be done
 
Trump's done and he knows it. He's been done since he lost and all this 2024 stuff is b***ks. I think his niece nailed it when she said with his fragile ego he wouldn't risk running again in case he lost (again).
With that in mind I think he is just trying to cause as much chaos and destruction as he can on the way out because he is a deeply flawed, nasty piece of work. It is reminiscent of the last days of the Nazis. Hitler knew his number was up and decided to take Germany and its people down in flames with him.
John Oliver summed it up back in mid November:
“And yet Republicans are trying to defend their support for Trump’s indefensible behavior,” Oliver continued. One senior White House official asked the Washington Post: “What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time?” which Oliver called “a question that never ends well, whether the ones asking it are overworked parents who need a break or the Weimar Republic”.

Edit: ........ and of course the whole charade has proved a nice little earner for him.
 
From CNN just now - Trump thug in the speakers chair of the Senate, where Senators had been debating a legal issue and had to leave the building swiftly under armed guard.
If this was happening in the House of Commons!?.........
