I always knew trumps demise would be spectacular but wow

How long before these nut jobs assassinate someone?
A few images coming out today showing a group of the "protestors" fully kitted out with holsters, bulletproof vests & flexi-cuffs.
Speculation is that there was a plot to kidnap/take hostages & everyone else in the "protest" was effectively cover.

Of course, the Far Right in the US have form for this insanity...

Pence insiders now apparently say he will attend Biden ceremony ,and that he felt much better now he'd come out and done ths right thing
Sounds like a feeling of escaping Hitlers bunker, and returning to the real world

Maybe social media is not the problem, I don't know. Maybe the world is populated by a bunch of intractable folks who are not interested in the other sides point of view. This ideological echo chamber exists on both the left and right and in all walks of life, your favourite supermarket, your favourite beer, your point of view on abortion.

This is not social media, it is social profiling. If we were all fed a cross section of views in our news feeds, youtube recomendations and suggested sites, maybe we would all be a little more tolerant of opposing points of view.

This is not a USA problem it is a first world problem.

You can clearly see those ties are looped into binders. This was obviously a failed attempt to get hold of the Democratic senators who Trump has demonised to his base as 'traitors', 'commies', 'unpatriotic', 'cheats', 'thieves', 'pedophiles', 'foreign born' and a whole host of other utterly ridiculous, and unfounded labels.

Also someone wearing a “6MWE” t shirt.

6 Million wasn’t enough.

Truly despicable people.
Yes. These individuals were described by Trump as “special people”

Also amongst the aggressive invaders of the Capitol was a newly elected lawmaker from West Virginia who published a video of himself breaking in. Then on the bus out of the City he deleted the video and left a message saying he was merely acting in the capacity of an independent member of the media reporting the facts. Utter coward. I trust he will be sacked from office. His name is Derrick Evans.

Mr motivator! How could you. 😢

See, why would those ever be necessary?

Unless the aim was to kidnap or hold hostage the people in there, or to kidnap or hold hostage the police or whoever came to defend them?

Who gets up on a morning, starts packing their bag for the day and thinks, oh, I might need these. He's obviously gone through a few stages before he thought about buying those in advance, then bought them, had them delivered, then taken them out of his house to use as a weapon, then taken them into the capitol building, it's probably about 10 different stages down the rabbit hole.

I take my wellies to site some days, in case it gets a bit wet, this clown takes tie wraps in case he gets the chance to hold elected people or public servants hostage. It needs cutting out or punishing strongly, otherwise it will just get worse and worse.

It could also be very partially the fault of those further left too mind, if you move the bar too soft, too quickly, then all that happens is the left side obeys the rules and the right side bends the rules further to take advantage, all it does is move the bar of what becomes the new norm, and gives ground to the racists, criminals, aggressors and terrorists. The vast majority or all of things that the left want to do is good of course, but if you go soft on punishment too quickly then this kind of crap happens. Can't be soft on people whilst this type of equipment and this many people that use it are knocking about.

All of this filters down because of how much racism there still is there and how many guns there are in the public hands over there, they're adverts for hate and aggression, and if you allow people to buy things "for defence", then inevitably "the attackers" will just buy more, more easily. The aggressors are more twisted and have more motivation to go one step further, and will pray on the weaker, less aggressive, it's happened since the beginning of time.

This crap, the racism, the shootings and domestic terrorism won't stop, not until they get rid of the guns, or not until the states break up or it's diluted out, until they do that they will just go round in circles.

The only way it will change is over a long time I think, people don't change their opinions quickly on the likes of racism and guns, if they ever do at all, it just gets diluted with each generation and they're still probably one or two generations away from major changes. Those stats on how many republicans still think this is fine (about 50%) means that about 25% of the US voters still have a screw loose, or are living in the past. I bet that figure isn't far off how many of their people are racist either, whether they admit it or not.

In the UK I think we're about 1 generation further ahead, with regards to the racism problem, I think we have about 50% more dilution. The younger generations are a lot more open to the world and different races and cultures, but the older people are, the more likely they are to be less open, purely because they were brought up in times where racism was rife, and effectively accepted.

The racism will get diluted, as will the hate, and as will the guns, the more the world relies on international trade, so providing countries keep trading across different cultures and races then it will continue to dilute. The USA halted that progression during Trump's tenure, but normal service and dilution will resume again, thankfully.

I can't say the same for us mind, we've took a step back, or stopped progression due to the current government and brexit, but it will be temporary, the younger generations will see to that, if they're taught correctly.

.... produced pre-Trump but might be a good idea going forward.

It is unclear whether a president can pardon themselves, the language is ambiguous and it has never been done before. A presidential pardon only covers federal crimes, not state crimes. Murder is generally dealt with as a state crime so cannot be pardoned by a president, although the death penalty can be commuted by a president.

How can someone pardon themselves, how is that even allowed, they could effectively go out and kill someone, then pardon themselves, eh???
the whole pardon thing is beyond me. If you look through the lists of people pardoned by former presidents some of them have committed very serious crimes.
Isn't it all circumventing the rule of law which the US love so much.

Because pardoning those , some of which are already convicted , is putting them above the law.

The pardoning thing is interesting because I think he'd need to actually stipulate what he's pardoning himself for. He'd need to actually detail and admit what he's done.
