I can't help feeling we're missing a chance

But, I really do feel this season's Championship is one that can deliver promotion for Middlesbrough.

As an Ayresome Parka, I would never, never criticise Steve, but the group feels under-funded - particularly when you take into consideration the funds earned from the sales of Gibson, Traore, Bamford, Spence and Tav.

I keep checking the Gazette's site for evidence that we're going to be competitive this season and I like much of the current group - Howson, Crooks, Fry, Dijksteel, Jones etc. but it's starting to feel like 'just wait another season and we'll get the right players in'.

We constantly seem to be waiting for the recruitment to team to identify and recruit the players we need to determine the game's outcome in the opposition's penalty area.

For season after seasons, we seem to have a Frankenstein's monster of a front line - add them all together and you'd have one superb striker but individually they're flawed. Can we just go and buy one completely finished forward please?

Rant over.

Each season we say the championship is weaker than previous seasons & each season we miss out, sadly I think this will be another missed opportunity

It’s poor, very poor. Two midfielders let go with no replacements lined up, and we’ve known we need forwards a long time now. We’re going to be playing catch up on the favourites before we even get our squad sorted - that’s if we ever do.

Yes its always frustrating waiting for the squad to be developed, but just looking at the OP and the players who have left and the current ones named - There is the reason, all of the ones released are better than the current.

I feel we have been drifting since Monk really. You need to be quick about getting back up imho and we blew that immediately - a manager that bought poorly and spent a fortune. It's been patch this, buy that player, sell this player, change the manager and none of them have been good enough as a team. We're not a Premier League club temporarily fallen on hard times any more, we're a Championship club. And apparently, a selling Championship club. We look as far away as ever at the moment. Couple of injuries and we're buggered. Meanwhile the search for the £5m forward who will get us 20+ goals enters it's god knows how many years it's been.

And each year we are more wrong. It's getting stronger and stronger. It's packed with international players. Every year there are 4 or 5 clubs that may as well be premier League given the budget available to them. It's a very hard league to get out of.

which one ?

Name a deadline day signing that’s worked well for us? We’ve left it late again.

It’s ok blaming the selling sides but we let Tav go pretty sharpish without any replacements.

If you have people who’s year long job is to work on recruitment - you should find out selling clubs valuations and availability before the window.

Two weeks into the season and we’re millions away from supposed targets. If you pay the money you get the player. If you can’t afford the player why have you not been bidding for those you can.

Steve Bruce said something interesting last night that he is absolutely nailed.

^you're only as good as your forward players^

Or something like that. I also think its what CW was alluding to when he asked for a bit of sympathy.

The club for whatever reason are not providing the players

Theres the cold wind of 1982 - 1985 "feeling" around.
Not going bankrupt....but drifting.
Its not Chris Wilder`s fault - but he`s left holding the legacy [baby].
Its like constantly living in "hope" that sugar Candy Mountain is just around the corner.
But its a long corner and we are constantly being promised but never achieve.

Disfunctional and disorganised behind the scenes with too many cooks in the kitchen. A Chief Executive that is widely disliked in football, a chairman with too much influence on who we sign trying to operate like it's 1998, it all leads to misfiring in the market and missing out on targets time and time again. This is not new to this season's summer window.
