If it wasn’t for the poor

Why should they give up their state pensions?
I think you’re missing the point………..it’s the fact the headline is aimed at pensioners who’ll be thinking “Dole’ys and scroungers“ then if you were to point out their pension is included in that so shall we also take that away you would hear the simultaneous gnashing of false teeth from space!!

Did you mean to reply to me? I've not said it's a benefit anywhere (although think it's technically classed as one?).

I don't disagree with your statement, but I'm not sure what point you're making, if it was directed at me!
It is a benefit though. There is no piggy bank of NI contributions and that is absolutely fine!

The state pension is not a benefit. its paid for by your national insurance, taken from wages, which you have earned over your working life.

For the vast majority, benefits are something they get from paying taxes most of their working life, as I did when I lost my job due to covid a received nothing but Job Seekers Allowance.

I think it was more a question than a request.

Basically pointing out the anomaly of people supporting a cut in govt welfare whilst receiving that very thing in the form of a pension.

Say that the pension was means tested? Anecdotally there must be a few who are in receipt of the state pension who would like to see a reduced welfare bill. Maybe this is one way of doing it.

Feels like the pension is almost untouchable as a benefit at the moment.
Predominantly Tory voters so they won’t interfere/

The case against ‘means test’ is always bureaucracy. I’m sure there is a way though.
Ludicrous that multi millionaires get a state pension esp as they are the ones who mange their tax affairs to ensure it isn’t taxable.
