If Phil Jones rocks up at Boro.

He's been released by United today.
His wages will probably have to tumble after a couple of bad years but from what I seen when he made that one random appearence for United their fans were still firmly behind him.
Became a meme because of his facial expressions but is a genuinely good player when he plays.

If there was a deal to be had and Carrick brought him in.. would you be happy?

Just asking because I seen a debate on Facebook and I genuinely think his experience would be a very valuable asset to us

He could be a Nigel Pearson-esque signing. An expensive one, but still be very influential.

But sadly can't see it. Plenty of lower/promoted PL clubs (or relegated ones with parachute payments) would probably take a punt on him for a free......but because he's free he will get mega wages.

Mid - late 90s we'd be in with a shout. Now, no chance.

Tuanzebe on a free would be a very good signing.

Williams......yes, possibly, career seems to have stalled last couple of seasons. Is he on a free or would he cost a few quid?

Chuck Diallo on that list too👍

He has played 13 times in 5 years, mostly I presume, from the bench. Fans are still behind him because he is about the last United player from the Ferguson era, but they won't exactly miss his influence.

If he came here for a sensible wage like £10k a week I'd worry about his motivation levels, but I'd obviously give him a fair chance. But if we were going to break the bank for him that would worry me. I agree with sheriff, he's more likely to go somewhere between the Championship and the upper echelons of the PL, where it isn't so much of a risk (like Serie A).

He'll probably have to go somewhere on trial. His fitness record is abysmal. Can't see many (if any prem clubs taking a chance on him) - maybe one of the promoted teams, sheff utd maybe. Otherwise would be a massive wage drop to the champo and he would have to prove his fitness. If he is fit, then he could be an asset, but a very BIG if.

Depends on how much desire he has to play.
He must be so far from match fitness that he’ll just pick up knock after knock.

Carrick will know what state he has been in - and is currently in.
He will know his level of motivation too.
If Carrick really wants him then it should be a serious consideration.
I'd be surprised if he does personally.

Be interesting to know what Carrick thinks of Jones. Rio Ferdinand came out and publicly criticised him if I remember correctly, suggesting he just terminated his contract and go.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he came, but I would like to think Scott and the scouting team will have eyes on other targets.
