If the Lib Dems become the opposition in a weeks time.

Ignoring party political issues i *think* if any party that finishes second with so few seats would, administratively, have to go into some sort of coalition.

The opposition to the government in this country are HM's Opposition as much as the government have their positions. All the political podcasts are merging in my mind now but I think Rory Stewart said you need 120 or so Shadow Ministers and thats before you even start looking at Committees. I could easily see a Tory Shadow Cabinet with dozens of peers, rather than MPs.

I’d like a hung parliament where Labour have to rely on Lib Deb and SNP.
They would have to talk and agree what is important together - wouldn’t that be a thing?
PR
Closer ties with Europe
Climate Change
Tuition Fees 😂

Labour will get a comfortable majority tho
It's an odd one that, as LD are meant to be more right than Labour, and they are, other than with the EU ties and I'd like to be closer to the EU.

Cosying up with the LD is dangerous though, as is even assuming they would be on Labour's side with anything. Look what they did in 2010 etc. I thought I was being clever voting LD in 2010 to show a bit if dissatisfaction with Labour and I got a good lesson in being shown how wrong I was. As for the SNP they're just self serving, anything gained by having them involved would be 10x worse in other areas. They to me are like a Scottish worn down version of Reform.

Most of Labour's MP's are as much for the EU as LD or SNP are, as are most of the population, but the reason they don't want to talk about it is it stirs up the right, it's a political hot potato. I think we need to just let Labour get in, get their foot under the door and then maybe look at joining the SM again later down the line, but it will need a vote. Or we could just pay for SM access, like a lot of the brexiters wanted anyway etc.

I think with 400-450 MP's though Labour will have some internal opposition, more than external opposition, so it should help get some balance I think.

If I had to pick a hung parliament I would prefer a hung parliament with the greens, I've not looked at their policies as I don't ever believe it would ever add up in reality but they would have some good thoughts on climate change, EU, PR etc, and there's no danger of them being over to the right.

Sadly no chance of it happening. I know a few people who are still voting Tory despite all the damage they’ve caused. It’s mind boggling.
Just out of interest are they very open about this?
What are their reasons for voting Tory, but not going to reform?
Where are they living?
What sort of money are they making/ house worth etc?
Do you know if they have private health insurance, private schooling, and the rest of their family the same etc?

Obv you might not know or want to share that info, which is fine, just trying to get a picture of why.

I've got a few mates who voted Tory last few times, but none of them are this time around. At least they're saying they're not anyway, some might secretly do that.
Some of my older family and their friends seem to be going to vote reform, but they largely lost anyway, they're afraid of what isn't even there and most of the blokes are closet racist and/or xenophobic. It's odd mind, as their wives don't seem to be as harsh/ are nice enough but a lot of them just seem to tow the line with the husband.

I can give you one example of Tory voters who are going to vote Tory.

We were out with a couple on Thursday night.
The lady was telling us she was going to stick with the Tories because of Starmer’s role in protecting Saville😂
My wife told her this has been proven to be a lie.
The woman replied with….
‘It can’t be because Boris said it again in an article just recently’
My wife went on to say - but that’s what they do, just repeat lies.

The woman’s daughter is voting for the first time this year and will follow her mother’s example.

I’d like to think that conversation made a difference - but would be 99% certain it didn’t.

Jesus christ, there's nothing you can do with people like that, they're just broken.

A good mate of mine lives in Tamworth and would never vote anything other than Tory. He’s from humble beginnings and has done well for himself. Ex-forces so believed the rubbish about Corbyn last time.

Another good mate is also ex-forces, runs his own business and is wealthy from it. Him and his Wife stopped voting Labour because of Iraq and have not voted anything other than Tory since. He’s doing so again.

The most bonkers is an older woman I’ve known for years. She’s smart, and genuinely lovey. The type who helps out at polling stations and happy to volunteer. At local elections in May we were talking politics. Once she told me she thought the Tories are doing a good job, I had to politely suggest we stop talking politics!

How can you associate with people like that?

Surely it overshadows every conversation? I have cut every single known tory out of my life as if they are still voting tory there is something fundamentally wrong with them.

It’s a good point and, following discussions with my partner over coffee this morning………….

I can confirm that associations with said couple have now ceased for ever 👍

Why does it matter that you can’t change their vote though? I can only assume these 2 weren’t very good friends in the first place?

Yes, that’s right.
Kind of people we meet every now and then - there is no history really and we’ve worked out there are better things to do than spend time with them.
