Independent Venue Week

Some great shows on Teesside this coming week, the highlights being Steve Lamacq and BBC 6 Music broadcasting live from Ku Stockton on Thursday, where The Murder Capital will play to a sold out crowd. Brilliant recognition for Jimmy and Angela for all of their great work in making Ku the absolute institution that it is today, not to mention all of the great work on Stockton Calling, etc.
Then, on Friday, Benefits headline the Empire. It's their biggest Teesside headline show to date, after headlining Twisterella last Oct, and after a sold out show at the Westgarth back in April.
Also, a shout out to Zela who headline the Georgian on the same night.

Further afield, notable mentions for:
Hamish Hawk + Lizzie Reid at Cluny, Newcastle on Weds
Plastic Mermaids at Oporto, Leeds on Thurs

IVW is pretty congested these days, with lots of competing shows across the same compact period, and I guess that a lot of music fans will be making some difficult choices regarding which show(s) to attend.
Good luck to all for these shows.

I will be at the Francis of Delirium gig at Cluny 2 on Feb 1st. Not sure its part of Independent Venue Week though as its been rescheduled twice and to make matters worse there is a rail strike that day.

Looking forward to covering the Ku Bar gig for NARC magazine. Good to see so many gigs at independent venues again.

Brilliant night last night for Stockton with Steve Lamacq supporting the Ku Bar show The Murder Capital - and Philip Selway from Radiohead at the Georgian Theatre.
The Murder Capital were immense, by the way. Durham support Trunky Juno were interesting watch too.

Went to the KK Steel Mill in Wolverhampton last night. First time I have been there. Seemed a good friendly venue.

Went to NE volume last night. Dubinski were brilliant. Can't believe they were playing at this small venue on a Thursday night.
