Is it proper to put milk in your tea before you pour in the hot water?

Milk in first. Its the only way. AND full cream milk - none of this chalky water shyte

This is a fact. My fact, but still a fact. :)
I'm going to formally accuse you of tea related heresy here mate. I've already called The Spanish Inquisition. They'll be with you pretty shortly. Although you probably won't be expecting them even though I've been kind enough to give you this warning.

Where we live we have hard water

If you put the milk in last you get all scum floating around on top

If you put the milk in first you still get a good cup of tea, but minus the scum

So with hard water you put it in first, soft water put it in second :)

Traditionally milk first to stop the porcelain cracking?

I worked with a tea afficianado 45 years ago. He informed us all that boiling water was wrong, it had to be 97 degrees to prevent the tea from being spoiled.

For me it's tea bag in, hot water on, very little milk if any, just to reduce the acidity.

With the advancement of teabags, the tea is brewed in the cup and then milk added afterwards. Otherwise it's as Indddeeedido said and don't forget the digestive!
I also find it's better when someone else makes it ;-)

Milk first every time otherwise how can you know you’ve got your bruce to the correct colour?? Yorkshire tea and a chocolate hob nob obvs 🤣

Some of you are going to need to sit down before you read this: lass at work puts boiling water in first, then milk, then teabag last. It's very upsetting to watch

I've heard rumours of some deviants adding milk directly to the brewing tea in the teapot itself.

Yet to personally meet one in the wild though so may be a myth.

Never mind the debate on milk first or not.
I can't believe that some would attempt to make tea using teabags. 🤮
They're not called sweepings for nothing.
Absolute heathens.
You can't beat Yorkshire loose leaf tea, and I also have a soft spot for Co-op 99 tea.
The taste of loose leaf compared to teabags is worlds apart

If I make tea at home in a cup rather than a pot, I use a infuser. That way I can let it brew for the required time without it being too strong.

Best price of advice I was given about making tea in a cup was, the first 5 minutes are all about colour after that comes taste!!!!
Always milk last if brewing in a cup, always milk first if using a tea pot.

I would’ve always thought it should be milk last.

You need the hot water to attack the teabag properly, That’s why you use boiling water. The use of milk first would diminish that, surely?
