As per the title. I am trying to lose weight and the cornerstone of my attempts is to replace cake with toast.

The internet was undecided on which is better and just provided me with a load of words that I couldn't be bothered to read. I trust fmttm to be more decisive and concise.

White bread 90% of the time, and butter with the marmalade but not with the others.

Go half and half bread and peanut butter, that’s not too bad and certainly better than cake 👍

I used buy a bread bun sarnie (more like a Stotty cake) in Newcastle, Chicken, Sweet Chilli, Peanut Butter and lettuce. Top ho tbh. Those were the days 🤖

Now
I have marmalade on 7 seeded toast bread on a Saturday Morning.

But porridge with fresh Strawberry's Raspberry and Blackberrys every morning for a week.

The wife makes me overnight oats every evening to eat for breakfast the following day, but I let it get to room temp as it hurts my teeth if its to cold.

I drink Root beer or water, lots of water, 1 or 2 cups of Tea.

Haven't drunk beer for a while now

I eats lots of Fresh Salmon, tinned salmon, fresh Cod, Fresh Mackerel, Kippers from Tesco, so I should have a lot of Mercury inside me 🥴

Rarely eat red meat at all, Sweet potatoes or new Potatoes over chips - something I rarely eat these days. Crab pate on brown bread toast.

I had a Mc Breakfast thing one morning the youngest son bought me, wow ! Coffee was great and the sausage was flat and round.

The wife uses one of those fantastic soup makers I love the fresh butternut and chilli soup ( bit hot for me at times) Not a fan of foreign muck. Favourite meal is a Sunday dinner. I was in USA few weeks back and everyday was fish and mash with green beans and this sort of strange gravy.

I like to make a fresh sliced beetroot cheese and tomato sarnie with reggae reggae sauce.

Anyway sorry for going off topic, eat fish mate, it helps you not to concentrate as well.

Peanut butter is recommended for anyone at risk of diabetes as a substitute for diary butter and margarine. Nuts in general are healthy if not covered in anything. They often do contain a lot of fats, but they are unsaturated fats which are not unhealthy. They also contain a lot of protein which is good.

Eat wholemeal bread it contains a lot of fibre so reduces blood pressure and helps you digestive systems and reduces the chances of many cancer.

I sometimes eat a bread called Hi Lo - it contains more protein than carbs. People in general eat too many carbs. Carbs are stored energy, but too many goes on as fat and too many means your body struggles to absorb the high levels of starch and sugar from them. Unabsorbed sugars and starches increase glucose in your blood and eventually type 2 diabetes.

How much cake are you putting away like?

First thing to change would be the white bread.

Wholemeal with seeds, the more fibre the better. Sourdough wholemeal w seeds is probably your best bet?

As above peanut butter is OK (or any nut butter really but peanut is cheapest) if you need the sweet hit get a jam/marmalade with a high percentage of fruit (if you venture into Lidl they periodically have the Polish 100% fruit jams). It's still got sugar in of course but it is essentially like fruit. The other thing you can do is pulp and freeze some fruit (strawberries work well) and spread that on your toast with perhaps a very light sprinkle of sugar.
