Italy v England in Naples

Delighted to see England hang on for a deserved win.

Can’t believe the referee booked 3 players for time wasting then only added on 5 mins despite a long delay around the sending off. Can we really have been wasting that much time?

Talk about making hard work of things 😁 that's england all over in one game there!!

Must say that's a very poor Italy side, no wonder they failed to qualify for the world cup
What happened to the Italy team of Euro2020? I hardly recognised any of their players!

Sure the ref was wearing a blue shirt.
I am certain that I saw Walker get a yellow card when Maguire got taken out, there was a big fracas and the ref book someone, C4 seemed to think it was Walker, so showed the imfographic of it.
Then Walker got booked for time wasting, going for a different ball on a throw in. Was it C4 getting the players mixed up?

Also, the ref when Maguire got wiped out, missed a hand ball in the Italian box, then sent off Shaw at the other side of the pitch.

Since when was it legal to be influenced by players (and managers) holding up cards, inciting it?

Thank phook we held on for that win. Can’t wait to see what the whiney Italians come out with in the press, ‘Oh mama Mia, so hard done-by-io’.

The ref was terrible but for all the time wasting and the mountains of subs which is supposed to add 30 seconds of additional time at the end….5 mins added time ?
I was expecting 10!mins !!!

Baffling

Smack the ball up you stupid *****

Why the **** teams insist on playing from the back, I’ll never know

Playing exactly like the final . Sitting back again and just waiting for the Italians to score

Yeah great idea, let's just hoof it. Like we did for about 40 years and were abysmal and won about 3 knockout games in all that time.
As with Boro same with England, if you try and play out from the back occasionally you'll lose the ball. If you hoof it you'll almost always lose the ball and most games at a high level.
If England are a **** team they've done well to beat a side who's record in their last 40 euro qualification games is won 34 drawn 6

I am a Southgate apologist, but we have ceded the game to a limited side here
to be fair they are limited in both boxes but they still have excellent ballers that can dominate games. It's really easy to just say they're crap, Italy have flaws, but they still have the ability to dominate possession against anyone.

I saw nothing time wasting wise that we don't see repeated throughout the leagues and the champs league every week without a yellow card

absolutely agree the ref had an absolute shocker, seemed quite intimidated by the crowd or just plain bias. Saying that Shaw had to stay on his feet, saying that VAR should have gone back and given us a penalty and rescinded the red card.

Enjoyed the match overall. Should have put them to bed before HT but defended pretty well second half. Nice to see us hang on against a decent team (albeit not as good as they have been recently).

Think Grealish might not have too many chances left. The miss aside he just doesn't seem to link up with anyone. Yes, he's decent one-on-one (usually winning a FK) but needs to improve his link up play to make that position his own.

Referee well out of his depth as well. Would have expected someone a little more experienced that a Serbian top flight ref if I'm honest.

For what it’s worth even if the first bit happens the red card isn’t rescinded. A second yellow/ red that happens after play continues before the review is only chalked off by a prior incident being given by VAR if it was given for denial of a promising attack or denial of a GSO. Others stand.

WTF was going on with the National anthems? The ladies monitors seem to have broken for our and they had a pet shop boys/proclaimers collab sing theirs?
It made me laugh when she started singing faster to catch up with the fans. The players all looked at each and hadn't got a clue what was going on.

Am I right in saying you are at Spurs ground this weekend to watch Saracens and Quinns? It should be a good day out.

I am indeed. Just planning the epic journey from Twickenham now! I'm really looking forward to the day out. The rugby? Not so much!* But it'll be great to see the new WHL.

*TBF I was in Brentford watching London Irish beat them at the end of last year (the atmosphere was electric for a sub 10000 crowd) so beating them is possible.
Just not probable

I'd never really paid much attention when seeing the odd bits of Napoli games but was anyone else struck by just how horrendous the view must be from that lower tier behind the goal? I mean can anyone really see anything? I'm sure the atmosphere is good for Napoli games but it felt a bit dead last night, or that's how it came across on TV anyway for most of it.
