It's almost as if we weren't told the complete truth

I agree brexit been a disaster but the apocalyptic stance is to do with the war

I am not convinced it is at all.

Yes, Covid affected economies globally, but everyone elses bounced back much quicker and better than ours did.

Equally the war has caused issues globally, but nowhere is (apart from Ukraine itself for obvious reasons) is feeling the pinch like the Uk is.

The French Gov has placed a 4% energy price rise cap, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Greece have put similar caps in place.

Add that to the continued shambolic UK customs delays and its a perfect storm for rampant inflation and profiteering by the large corporations.

But none of that is down to Brexit and this government though is it?

That is a very short sighted view mate. If it were the case, all other countries, especially those in Europe would be in a similar position to us in the UK. But guess what, they are not.

Brexit is the biggest British own goal since the Suez, we are suffering for it and will likely to continue to for years, but a cripplingly expensive global pandemic followed by the devastating war in Ukraine have created a perfect storm of conditions.
Food prices are sky rocketing because of the increased costs in part caused by the oil and gas embargoes against Russia and the blockade of the breadbasket of Europe.

Countries are struggling all over the world because of it.
We'd very likely be struggling less if we'd remained in the EU, but we'd still be struggling.

There are issues all over Europe right now because of this crisis?

France, Hungary, Germany are currently trying to circumvent the EU imposed sanctions to allow themselves to continue to import Russian gas and oil and prevent financial hardship in their own countries, much to the fury of most countries in Eastern Europe who are directly bordering Russia.

I saw a piece on twitter that I now cant find but basically it said 'Brexit didnt cause the food shortages but it does exacerbate their effect'

I thought inflation was effecting everyone.

With any crisis they are number of factors, but brexit alone would have not have caused apocalyptic prices.

People are increasing their rates around the world. America, Australia have all increased their rates to help. It’s a global problem, not a brexit one. Brexit is making it worse for us but brexit isn’t the reason

I never said it wasn’t down to this government or brexit

We have probably the least interventionist government in the Western World, that certainly isn't helping things. Most progressive Western governments, you know, actually give a f**k about their citizens.

Instead we get lies, collusion and "jam tomorrow" - a government keen to blame literally everything on anybody else.

If I were a Conservative strategist I'd be getting nervous though, not sure they can ride to success at the next GE purely off the back of a "culture war" (although it is exactly the same playbook which ensured Brexit and won them the last GE).

We were always going to struggle in any crisis, Brexit or not. The shameful lack of investment in both public and private infrastructure has left us far too unproductive as a nation.

The work that Blair did when he was in charge was good; we had good productivity growth in comparison to other G7 countries. That's tanked under the Conservatives, which they knew it would.

Most of the time they know what the consequences of their actions will be but hope to wing it (particularly under Johnson).

That's why they keep delaying the Customs controls on goods coming in from the EU. They're hoping that the relationship between goods coming in that are in competition with domestic producers and goods coming in that are needed for the UK supply chain will balance out. We'll be in a worse position regardless, but as I said, they're winging it.

Brexit is making it worse but it isn’t reason, well no, but it is the reason thats it is worse.
If Covid didn’t happen and Putins war didn’t happen, do you really believe it would all be hunky dory?

Remember the reason the tories gave for suggesting that we should break from the European Food Standards was that the Uk May wish to improve them…..
Look at the NI Protocol from a few angles the DUP bigots and the tories are playing us again.
Somebody mentioned Suez, I agree, Suez was our first obvious slip from being a world power,
When the American Good Friday Negotiation Team sit down with Johnson , Truss and the other shiesters , the world will see us hit the floor .
