Qatar is relatively decent compared to Saudi Arabia and the previous world cup hosts Russia. If you have a strong opinion against Qatar hosting this tournament, then the same opinion must follow against human rights abusing Arab states buying football clubs. Newcastle, PSG, City.
Otherwise you're a hypocrite of the highest order (hello BBC pundits).
Absolutely.Qatar is relatively decent compared to Saudi Arabia and the previous world cup hosts Russia.
I suppose the one difference is that 6750 didn't die in the acquisition of NUFC/Man City/PSG etc. But I agree with the general point. Sadly, we can't bring those people back now, I just hope the media continue to remind everyone that that's what this world cup cost in terms of human life and is maybe a watershed moment in the 'sports washing' realm. If you have a strong opinion against Qatar hosting this tournament, then the same opinion must follow against human rights abusing Arab states buying football clubs. Migrant labourers would be treated the same whether they were constructing stadia or new skyscrapers/shopping malls for the state wealth funds. So to me the state funds' involvement in football as a whole is something you oppose, otherwise don't act all shocked when the World Cup ends up in Qatar. Dirty money is dirty money whether you hide it behind European sports teams or the tournament takes place in the Gulf itself.I suppose the one difference is that 6750 didn't die in the acquisition of NUFC/Man City/PSG etc. But I agree with the general point. The Geordies hugging him really are pathetic. Even if you've 'made your peace' with it, jesus, hugging? He is not in this cos he loves the Gallowgate faithful, that is obvious to anyone with the most basic level of intelligence.
