Jeremy Sarmiento

I don't know much about him but it's encouraging that he made 35 appearances for Burnley when they reached 100 points a few seasons ago.

I like that we seem to be targeting players who have proven themselves in England during this window. Think the recruitment team made a huge mistake bringing in attackers who had never previously played in England last summer.

It's not a mistake to try them. It's relying on them so much that's the issue. It's taken Whittaker a year to look good and he's had experience and success in the league previously.

It's a big ask for the others to come in and hit the ground running

Latte Lath didn't do too badly. Recruiting foreign players is a gamble, some turn out well, some don't, that' the risk, and why proven players in the English leagues cost more. You can see this bear out in our strategy with recruiting younger players or ones coming close to the end of their contracts.

Won't pretend it's a signing that overly excites me tbh.

He's pretty young, and for most intents and purposes English, so he'll have far less of an issue with settling, but he's played fairly little football in his career so far, most of his game time has been from the bench.

His last league start was over a year ago, so he's not one you can be sure will hit the ground running.

Double experience of promotion, he has scored some important goals, and he'll be desperate to finally become a regular starter for somebody, so I'd say I'm hopeful on him rather than excited.

Yeah, what I mean is that it's about finding the right balance. We brought in two strikers last summer who'd never played in England before they'd signed for us and it's fair to say neither of them hit the ground running. In hindsight, we probably should have signed one of them and then should have gone for an experienced Championship striker, like Carlton Morris or Kieffer Moore.

Yeah, as I said, it's about finding the right balance. We brought in three defenders with Championship experience last summer and all three have been excellent. We didn't sign any attackers with Championship experience and it's fair to say all 4 signings hardly hit the ground running, and you could say a couple have flopped.

You can't always guarantee they're going to be a success just because they have that experience but I do believe it helps.

The first two aren’t League One or Two players in any way. They are players who have played on loan in those leagues and done extremely well, and they are young players from Premier League clubs that are very highly rated who several clubs in the Championship were interested in buying.
Sarmiento might not have played much in Serie A, but he has played for teams that have both been promoted in the last two seasons in this league and 25 times for a country that has qualified for the World Cup.
I think they are all really good signings, all young, all familiar with playing in England, all with good potential, all in positions that will strengthen us, and the first two in great form.
They’ve both looked a class above the level they played at. Both team of the season contenders/shoe-in if the had stayed.

It’s a step up still, but I’m hoping they can offer something this season and if we don’t go up, step on it next year

Burnley fan mate says he had some special moments playing for them but did go missing in games. An impact player from the bench is his strength.

I hope he is the new Stuart Ripley.

Mercurial isn’t a good thing. It’s unreliable. It’s a bit like Burgzorg. If he got his head up and was more composed… well, we wouldn’t be able to keep him - but it’s so frustrating.

I want reliable. And effective.

Yeah I’m a spoilt t**t.

Wingers who play like rippers don't exist anymore

I think its probably a little unfair to reach any absolute conclusions about his prwvious loans, given his age, but he's still a young player who will no doubt improve.

The fact we fancy him so much, as well as the manager, is good enough for me.
