Jonathan woodgate

I’ve never seen him look as annoyed as he did going off at half time. I think a few home truths might have come out to focus us for the second half - it worked.

We shouldn't forget Woody's pedigree, he's surely picked up knowledge as a player firstly with the mighty Boro, but Leeds, Newcastle, Spurs and Real Madrid are great teams to have on your CV. Then there are forays into management with Boro and Bournemouth. Do we think it'll be a Clough/Taylor partnership with Carrick?

I'm so pleased for him.

What happened in his time as manager will have scarred him, and it'll still hurt him there's no doubt about that.

Listened to 1 or 2 interviews with him previously where he's touched on the mental health issues he suffered due to the abuse - absolutely awful to listen to.

I'm hoping its written in the stars for Woody this season.

Exactly this as woody was a world class player who really should have had a much bigger England career as well.

I reckon MC 100% listens to everything Woodgate and Danks has to say, they're his lieutenants in the dugout and he's always talking to them, always discussing the game and if we're behind, drawing or well ahead they're still at it discussing game management and whatever. Great vibe and blend there i think and long may it continue.

Boro fans take Woodgate for granted. He did have one hell of a job here and he did better than much more experienced coaches. The Cowley Brothers and Philip Cocu for starters and most definitely Chris Wilder after he’d finished riding Warnock’s wave. Well respected in the game, Liverpool picked him up before we did and it wasn’t a fluke that he ended up at Bournemouth.. doing very well I may add. Carrick and Woodgate work together really well and we’re lucky to have them both.. Danks in the mix too. Top team and a credit to our recruitment

Btw this was saying about changing Michael’s philosophy, but influencing little things around what the fans want and expect and the response he got when prior to the season he wanted to play attacking football.

The Newcastle fans I know rate Woodgate as their best ever Centre Back. He was excellent for them and hence the move to Real Madrid.

No player goes to the biggest club side in Europe without being excellent. Woodgate in particular didn’t have the glamour of Beckham, so it was all ability. He was very unfortunate that injuries prevented him becoming as successful for Real Madrid as Steve McManaman.

How much do you think he influenced carricks thinks on which tactic he wanted to employ

We know woodgate wanted to play attacking front all, he knows that’s what the fans wanted. Do you reckon he made him know….
Woodgate had some strong words with him when Smith and Forss got crocked late in the first half, possibly along the lines of "don't make subs yet, let them ride the half out and we'll fix it at half time". Carrick was possibly thinking the same as well though, seemed the obvious thing to do.

Delighted for Woodgate.

Returning to the Club in a lower role than his previous position shows the measure of the man. Nobody can question what the club means to him.
I agree mate....this was the most humble act he could have done and I have been wowed by his ability to stay at carricka side rather than. In front of him....fair play woody...you have gone a long way to erasing past nonsense...

I suspect Woodgate is a big part of the in-game tactics and I also think its probably a strong point of his

I was critical of him at the time but in hindsight he was given an almost impossible job as manager with no budget, renewing the squad and trying to get a different style of play

I think he's a big asset to the club

His assistant was Robbie Keane ffs

Woodgate played at the very highest level and is one of the best defenders this country has ever produced.

As a coach, the players look up to him and heappears to be liked by the players.

He bit off more than he could chew with his first role. He has the character to shrug that off, come back and try again. Top man and a Boro fan - he's in exactly the right position and I'm pleased for him. Is there a space for Mogga :ROFLMAO:
