Jones or Forss

I think Wednesday and if we get to Wembley could be jones last games for boro, we are in a win or bust situation so Forss has to play.

Forss didn't look fit when he came on so I doubt he has 90 minutes in him. I don't like starting players who are not going to be able to play the full 90 if required (always felt the same with Dunc Watmore) so for me it's a no-brainer, we start Jones. As others have pointed out Jones could have had a brace on Sunday also there was a very naughty "tackle" on him by Doyle that went unpunished so they are definitely aware of the threat he poses. If I was to change anything I would swap Djiksteel for Smith as they combine much better as an attacking pair than Smith and Jones.
I think the combination of Smith and Paddy as experienced and physical players is what kept Gyokeres quiet, there's a risk in playing Dijksteel that he gets bullied.

That's a good point, it did strike me as odd that Gjokeres stayed up against our right side and didn't try his luck against Leniham and Giles.

On a normal day and availabile I'd go Forss. I think we miss him. Also has a much better goal threat.

Yet i'd go with Jones on Wed. I thought he looked a threat. Also I'm not sure Forss is 100% or more so match fit. He looked a bit rusty.

It's nice to have the discussion. It means Jones has forced (no pun) his way back into the picture.

I'm pretty sure we will he unchanged.

Having Howson and Ramsey on the bench would also be useful. Even if only for 15mins or extra time.

Only Carrick knows the true fitness - and match sharpness - of the squad.
If fully fit then Forss starts right and Ramsey left - I'm sure that's what Carrick would do.
But a 90% fit Ramsey and a not match fit Forss will not be enough to start.

Howson is another huge dilemma, as if fit he has to play.

I wish Jones would strike a ball with his laces once in a while. He seems to only ever use his side foot which means he lacks power at times. Needs to whip a ball in occasionally instead of trying to pick a pass and put his foot through it when he has a chance at goal.

I wish Jones could play a simple pass more than 25% of the time.
His short simple passing particulary in the 1st half was dreadful.

Forss for me

Always prefer Forss over Jones but I would be happy for Jones to start and run their full back for 60 minutes and then make the substitution for Forss as their full back tires or the other way round start Forss and bring Jones on.

They need to rethink their strategy if they have a chance of winning - I think Jones may get more openings in the next game. His finish for the disallowed goal was sublime - definitely did enough to keep his place
He certainly showed glimpses and forced them to not push up on their left side. They were certainly worried that he got in 3 times, once marginally offside, once where he was fouled but not given and once where his shot was saved at the near post. He almsot got in another couple of times, but last ditch blocks stopped him.

They countered this in the second half by pushing Bidwell higher up and expecting the LCB to cover the space behind....but the space is there and the LCB and LWB can't keep fouling him at our place, they'll get yellows away from home doing that.

think it might need to be longer than 60 mins, because of the threat of extra time. Probably 75 at the earliest.

My problem with jones is that when he gets into a position to cross, he strokes it along the floor, rarely gets lift or pace and so they often get blocked for a corner. Giles mixes it up and Jones could learn a lot from his assists, a little lift over the first defender can still scoot at knee level into the box and can be touched in by a defender as much as a forward. A cross for a header at pace, similarly.

I’ll be happy to put faith in MC making the right call, he will know fitness levels.

I'd start with Forss as he's a tireless worker and keep Jones as an impact sub. I've noticed that whenever someone gets physical with him he just goes hiding.

Jones, on his day, is the most exciting player we have, always a threat, I'm hoping Wednesday his his day again.

Personally I'd start Jones just from the standpoint that he knows their defenders and he clearly has the beating of their left back. Forss isn't quite up to speed so it would be silly to start him imo, but who knows.

Tough choice. With us being at home, the onus will be on us to attack and there will be a bit more pressure on Jones to perform. If he starts poorly and some fans get on his back, could be a tricky evening. He needs 100% to be confident. I don't think Forss will be a lot fitter with minimal training between games. I doubt Howson or Ramsay will be ready either. Expect the same side, and if we are struggling to break them down, or Jones isn't playing well, expect Forss to be on pretty early in the second half. He didn't really have a chance to get in the game on Sunday, as by that point, it had become a bit of a stalemate, with neither team willing to take many risks.
