Jorgen Strand Larsen

Surely there's no way they can keep him now ???

He's basically saying outright that he wants to leave and come to Boro (or Bologna ... :( .. boo!) and he's disappointed the club won't let him ..

A snippet :

Middlesbrough will fight at the top of the Championship and seem very interested in me. In addition, English football is exciting, with everything that goes with it. Had the club accepted an offer from them, I could quickly go there, he says and continues:

Think of the Tav situation. Bournemouth interested, he wanted to go, Bournemouth offered £10m, we were happy with that, he went.

Now the issue we have with Larsen is Groningen have said they want to keep him, but understand his ambition, so slapped a £12m price tag on him. We value him at £8m. We don't want to increase the offer, they don't want to reduce it. Impasse.

Reassuring that he's changed his tune from Sunday so obviously SOMETHING has happened since then. May be up to his agent to broker something - £10m but different payment plan?

Honestly thought this was dead in the water so .......😳😳

We're a stepping stone to him - which I can accept given we're a medium sized club - but is that the right attitude we're after? Wilder's "attitude over ability" framework, does that fit?

We're a stepping stone for Wilder as well. We have to accept that we'll never be the best and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We should be trying to attract players here by being a stepping stone. A good track record of doing well, being noticed and then moving on to bigger and better things should see us doing well because of it. Winner/winner isn't it? It's got to be better than attracting the players that think we will be the pinnacle of their career or are just here for a payday. We want players good enough to play in the PL.

Surely our whole model now is sign/develop young players and sell on for profits?
£8m + £2m if we go up and 10% sell on. Get it done.

I remember Maccarone doing an interview when he signed for us that he wanted to go on and sign for Man Utd. Did feel a bit dubious about his attitude at the time, but he did alright for us in the end.

Every club is a stepping stone (unless you're already at the top) .. I don't believe a player in history will have said "I'm happy playing Top 10 Championship football and never want to take the step up"

If he wants to play at the top than he has to perform .. if he comes to Boro, performs and gets a move to Liverpool .. then he'll have done well here over the years and we'll have benefitted from it .. and probably made a profit on top .. what's not to like?

The lad would be lying if he said his dream was to play for Boro, he's come out and been honest and i applaud him for it. If he said he had posters of Jamie Pollock on his wall growing up, he'd look a bit daft so let's just accept that outside of Teesside nobody dreams of playing for us.

I have no problem with him admitting he loves Liverpool and would love to play for them, makes me think he'll play his b***ks off when he's over here to get their attention which is win win for us.

Apparently another unnamed Italian club have had a €10m bid rejected. Groningen have got what they wanted in that there is going to be a bidding war.

Unless he does a Spence and says he only wants to come to Boro, I think he could be one that gets away.

Think its Salernitana

Exactly this and it is why Scott is here. He is probably identifying Wilders successor now so the transition is not as big as Wilder has had to contend with.

I listened to an interview on BBC radio 5 live with the Southampton chairman last season. He said that they are actively looking to sign players that will use their club as a stepping stone. Their sales pitch is that the club will develop the player to achieve his potential, and in the process the club will benefit as the team performs better.

If we were serious about him now is the time to move, trouble is, others have now been made aware of his ambition. Think we will be outbid now though. But you never know

It’s fair to say after the Burnley situation the club executives have had to reset their thoughts on Wilder’s tenure. I’m sure this is one of the problems with our current transfer policy, what’s good for Wilder may not be good for the club.

But as long as our crazy no one currently in a job policy exists then it’s pointless. As the talent pool is more of a puddle.
