Jorgen Strand Larsen

It does sound like the Groningen chairman has moved the goalposts at the last minute to try and get more money out of us.

That sort of thing tends to be like a red rag to a bull with Gibson, can't see him playing ball. Suspect we'll end up walking away unless Groningen U-turn.

We shouldn’t be going big on someone, who in reality is another project - it’s ok if you have money to burn but we haven’t. Hopefully Gibson doesn’t allow us to be milked on this one

It’s time for hardball...
Take it or leave it with £200k off the bid every day thru Aug 31

This is a really strange one. It seems like a lot of money to spend on a player who has only had one decent season in Holland - completely unproven in England.

I'm guessing he's one of Scotts' recommendations and he could have massive potential but at this current time, if we're going to be spending big on a striker I'd prefer for us to go for Armstrong, Jakobsen or Gyokeres.

If we are genuinely looking at paying 9-11mil for him I'd prefer it on Armstrong. They paid 10mil? I imagine money back would swing it.
Think it was 16 with add ons. We won't get him for the fee we have offered for Larsen, which is currently about £8.3m. It might rise to a 9.5m offer, but that is still going to be short of Armstrongs valuation and the wage would also be double for Armstrong who will be on 40-50k a week right now, Larsen will be on about 8k max.

Ha! Like a sort of reverse hostage negotistion.

Over to him and his agent now really. If they want the move, they'll make it happen, particularly if a fee has already been agreed in principle then reneged on (hence I suspect the last minute increased contract offer from his club).

Thought it was more like £16m? Out of our price range (particularly when you take wages, length of remaining contract etc into account) I think.
Absolutely this, the whole package for Armstrong will be way bigger than Larsen, or any of the other targets.

I think Southampton were looking at a loan fee in excess of £4m for the season, add on wages to that too, for a player who isn't going to increase in value, should we try to take him permanently. These figures would need to soften considerably for something to happen you would think.

Larsen has the potential to rise considerably in value, as do all of our targets, which isn't a coincidence.

None of us know much about Larson in reality, but he is more appealing than Hoppe for obvious reasons and Forss too.
The more evidence, the higher fee and the higher wages. Of course Larson would cost more than Hoppe or Forss.

Riis would cost more than all of them and Gyokeres would command a further premium. They have simply done much more.

Armstrong will be at least £12m on Soton's books just one season after a £16m fee paid. He has bombed in the PL absolutely, so they would do well to recover that book value for him. No PL club would sign him, very few Championship clubs would go near. His wage will be min £40k per week, absolute minimum and he would not leave unless this was replicated.
Soton would ideally want £4m loan fee to cover annual amortisation and as much contribution to wages as someone was daft enough to pay. They might not get anywhere near that and might reluctantly accept less to move on a player who is not PL standard.

Coventry will want £20m for Gyokeres, or more.
But when push comes to shove, if a PL club does not come in they will not get that, so they would be sorely tempted to record a £14m profit this season by selling him for £15m. The player would come here with the right terms.

Everybody will have different views of what represents best value in our signings and we can't afford to buy proven class across the 4 forward berths.
Forss for me is a low cost bench option.
Gyokeres would be the signature move.
Armstrong I'd also haggle for on loan as Soton's options evaporate.

Well you either sign a player or lowball and leak stuff to the press. It’s not our first rodeo.

If they're in the market for a striker you'd think Burnley would be looking at Gyokeres ahead of Larsen wouldn't you? I'd be very surprised if not.

In which case you'd have to think they've also been put off by the price. With 🪂 payments they must surely be able to afford it more than us, suggesting Coventry might well be just pricing him out of the market.

Don't think Burnley are awash with money - reported their £60m parachute payment had to go to pay a loan off. So the money generated from sales will be their transfer kitty and assuming their American owners will want a few quid out of this too.

It's understood both parties are still some distance apart on wages and length of contract for the 25-year-old free agent, son of former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United star Henrik.
