Jorgen Strand Larsen

Jordan Larsson is due to arrive in Germany on Friday for talks with Schalke.
It's understood both parties are still some distance apart on wages and length of contract for the 25-year-old free agent, son of former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United star Henrik.

This amused me, confusing a 6ft 4inch beast as the son of well known midget Henrick Larsson. 🤣

Someone is going to be along in a minute to tell me Henrick Larsson is actually 6ft! (Like Shay Given who seems small but is actually over 6ft).

It’s Neil Bausor returning empty handed from Holland. He’s had two days on the edibles in Amsterdam to avoid Wilders anger!

Stealing from OneBoro again. Apparently the same plane went from Groningen to Amsterdam on Tuesday, also went from Amsterdam to Teesside today. Curious. But can’t explain the two day wait, unless he was meeting his agent or something.

Armstrong will be at least £12m on Soton's books just one season after a £16m fee paid. He has bombed in the PL absolutely, so they would do well to recover that book value for him. No PL club would sign him, very few Championship clubs would go near. His wage will be min £40k per week, absolute minimum and he would not leave unless this was replicated.
Soton would ideally want £4m loan fee to cover annual amortisation and as much contribution to wages as someone was daft enough to pay. They might not get anywhere near that and might reluctantly accept less to move on a player who is not PL standard.

Armstrong I'd also haggle for on loan as Soton's options evaporate.
Agree on Soton’s options evaporating…
Since he bombed in the PL after one season, his now £12m book value must also have bombed. When considering a new Championship valuation, an effective 50% write down in his current book value could then seem about right … and from there a one year £2m loan with us paying 50% of his current weekly wage would make sense. In short, we should not be paying for Soton’s significant overpayment on purchase.

Is anyone else more worried about this signing than excited?

Spending (a reported) €9m on a lad who is unproven in this league smacks of previous transfer business and desperation.

I thought under Scott we were adopting a more sustainable transfer policy.

I think we have and this did within it; hrs very young and has the potential for a higher resale in a few years.

All xfers carry risk, but what we won't see I'd big money spent on players with little or no resale value I think.

We've bought proven goalscorers in this league and been burnt before.
Scott has form for finding good players so I think he needs time to prove his worth doing it for us.
As long as we are buying players for the system rather than just on reputation then there is more chance of success I'd say.

Alves was part of Southgates project to get us back to the Championship and wasn't even his signing, so the cards were stacked against him from day one
Emnes......another time, a different manager, he could have been a good player as a second striker. Just never consistent enough.
Which other proven goalscorers have we bought from the Dutch League (and Wildschut doesn't count) 🤔🤔

The Dutch league has had some great goalscorers over the years Bergkamp, Huntelaar, Kuyt, Van Hoijdonk, Van Nistlerooy, Van Persie, and of course the real Ronaldo. Even players like Kalou, Depay and Kezman who didn't light p the prem, would boss the championship.

The idea that the Dutch league isn't a good huning ground for strikers is a silly idea.

Southgate is on record stating that alves was his signing. He even went to court to get him remember.

It’s only after it didn’t work as saying that he wasn’t his signing.

On his signing Southgate told sky sports.

I think it’s very satisfying when so much effort has been put in, and I’ve got to say the chairman and Keith Lamb have been fantastic. I’ve heard people question the ambition of this club over the last year, and I know we’ve done deals going out to help finance things, but I’ve had terrific backing from them in the transfer market. The ambition is still there. We’ve got a plan. It takes time to build a club up, but that’s what we’re trying to do. This signing will be a real boost and give great momentum to our season. I think it will excite the fans. He’s a player with a fantastic pedigree and people are really looking forward to seeing him play.

I agree - I was stating our record with signings from the Dutch League haven't panned out but certainly not all their fault.👍

And in the echo

Alves, however, opted to stick by his word and move to the Riverside Stadium.

"Other clubs tried to tempt him," admitted Southgate, who hopes to have Alves in training early next week.

"He never wavered in that he wanted to play in the Premier League and when he met us he was comfortable in joining us.

"He knows he can make an impact here. He saw the game the other night, we created chances, and he feels he can have an influence.

"We never had any fears that he would not come to us. We just feared we might run out of time. It is very satisfying."

Not worried at all. I don’t have insight regarding the clubs finances and Gibson has employed people to do this and he’s demonstrated he’s a more successful business man than me so no reason to doubt his judgement

It does seem like a lot, but to sign a player of similar potential, of a similar age who's already done it in the championship would likely cost twice as much.

As others have said all signings carry a risk. I think this one is much less of a risk than signing a South American too. Much closer to home, culture is very similar and he'll speak fluent English. A step up in standard for him certainly but the style of football will be more like what he's used to too.
