Joshua Usyk

Fury is a funny one - he's never defended a world title and when you actually look at it, he's hardly fought anyone. He beat an aging Klitschko and Wilder twice, he's fighting Wilder for a third time soon. In coming up the last six years, Fury has fought Wilder and a bunch of fighters that nobody had heard of. In one of those fights, it is generally accepted that Otto Wallin should have won because the cut Fury sustained was such that the fight should have been stopped. Many also believe that earlier in Fury's career, he was clearly beaten by the domestic level fighter John McDermott but was given a favourable decision.

Joshua is another one who's résumé is suspect. He's never fought a proper champion and tends to get in the ring with fighters who are regarded to be of little threat. Despite this, he still managed to get badly knocked out. Many also say he was given a favourable decision to gain Olympic gold. The general consensus is that he lost.

Usyk is a different ball game to both AJ and Fury. He cleaned out a stacked Cruiserweight division in no time at all. He went up against the best in their backyards and beat them all easily. Some say Bredis gave him a good fight, of course it was a proper contest as Bredis is top class. But Usyk beat him fairly comfortably.

It's hard to work out why Joshua is such a strong favourite to beat Usyk. Obviously there's going to be strong favourable treatment for the home fighter, but Usyk might take this out of the hands of the judges. The extra weight is good for Usyk as it will help him in this contest.

compare the KO records of the two, compare the height and reach, compare their heavyweight resumes and I think that tells you why he is favourite.

I mean Usyk is a very skillful fighter, but he hasn't proven himself to be elite at HW or even close, two fights against shot fighters and he failed to gain stoppages.

Joshua has fought everyone available. Yes Martin and Parker weren't great champs, but he took them on and beat them very early in his career. He tried repeatedly to get the wilder thing agreed, but Wilder chose a 40 year old ortiz and a half fit Fury instead.

Joshua wants to unify, so has had to fight mandatories, and some of them were granite never been stopped types and he stopped them. His record is easily the best of the three. Other than fighting wilder who ducked him and Fury who has been inactive for a large part of his career and then dropped out of an agreed fight, I don't see who else AJ could have fought.

AJ is not a good boxer, poor lateral movement and a predictable fighting style, jab jab punch. You make good points about his and fury’s records, is not a High standard division at all, Derek chisora ffs.If klitshscho had followed through on AJ when he had him rocking…… People knock fury’s record bu he wen n with the hardest puncher around after a three year lay off and beat him AJ couldn’t do that.

And if Joshua KO's Usyk within three, you can add him to your list of poor fighters he's fought.

He can only beat whats in front of him and he has.

With an assessment like that there would be no chance of a guy with that skill set on getting far in the olympics. Anyone know how aj got on at the Olympics, only followed his pro fights 🥸

If he is so poor what does that make everyone else he has whupped? Honestly haters gotta hate and can't appreciate excellence.

Poor boxers don't beat a Klitschko, poor boxers don't win the title twice, poor boxers don't get people like Wilder running away and taking easy fight instead. 🤦‍♂️

He might not be at Lennox's level yet, but his career certainly has the potential to be up there. These kind of discussions remind me of when Lennox was at the same stage of his career. The yanks would write him off continually as too straight, yes he can punch but he can't take a shot, not enough head movement etc....yet now hes widely accepted in the top 6 of all time y everyone other than the weird cultish Mike Tyson fan boys. Now I don't think Joshua will ever be as good as Lennox but I do think he has the potential to be all time top 10

and lets not forget some people have bottled out of getting in front of him, yes I'm looking at you two, D and Luke.

Those type is assessments don’t stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever. It a casual fan opinion

This must be one of the most debated non football topics on here (Fury/Joshua), I think sometimes people just need to agree to disagree!

One day hopefully we'll have some more conclusive answers.

It's an assessment/opinion, nothing to do with hate, he's not a good boxer, Fury would outbox him and wilder would stop him,
You own words suggest you haven't a scooby doo what you're talking about.

To say that a HW World Champion who has defended his titles numerous times, along with being an Olympic Gold Medallist is not a good boxer is clearly nonsense. Nobody has every suggested that Joshua doesn't have weaknesses or that he's the perfect boxer because he isn't. He has flaws as do all of the HWs.

The FACT of the matter is he has a much superior record to both Fury and Wilder and also displays a hunger to fight anyone. He want's to be an undisputed champ and will face anyone. Compare that with Fury (again, I'll point out I'm a big Fury fan) who has never defended his title and who got beaten by John McDermott (not on paper but everyone who knows boxing knows he lost that fight) and should have lost against Wallin.

Don't even get my started on Wilder who has probably lost as many rounds in his career as he's won and who is blessed with a huge, huge KO punch. However he has very, very limited skills in the ring and his record is against other very limited opponents other than Ortiz who won virtually every round in the two fights they had and almost KOd him and Fury who beat him.
