Unlikely we're gonna get a profit on him, maybe a slight one.
 
Still can't see him being here next season but will be good for Hellberg to have a look at him in pre season.

I fear he's not technical enough for Hellberg.

He was an Edwards signing. Hellberg gave him a few games and pretty quickly decided he wasn't going to work, and I have to agree with him. We paid well over the odds for him, but at the time the fee was given as 'undisclosed'.

You will never sell every player bought as a project for a profit and hanging on to them when there is no prospect of them playing only further erodes their resale value. You hope that one of the "prospects" will be a Morgan Rogers or at least return a decent profit but you will make a small loss on some maybe even most.

If we gave him a 5 year contract at 20yo we must be thinking long term with him, probably along the lines of an initial look-see in England followed by a loan in Jan if he struggled a bit (as he did) to aid his development. I reckon he went this Jan after Kim had a look and decided ‘he needs development time I can’t give him right now here’. I think he’ll come back here this summer and will go on loan for a season again to see how he develops. Sale next summer if no development progress.
 
So does tonight’s result mean we won’t be selling him (at least for that fee and immediately)? Good result for us if so, he’s so young and I think we’ll look very silly in a few years if we let him go. How many 20 year old central midfielders could boro buy with comparable experience?

And weirdly, I saw attributes I really liked in both Kante and Hansen.

Must be so much scouting and effort that goes into these transfers that it seems a shame to sign them, then not to give them time / opportunities to develop and settle.

It’s a results business, but I’d rather give Hansen 20 games and see what happens than either a bog standard Champo clogger or someone on loan. We saw enough potential to want to sign them, have to give them chances.

He didn't. We had a buy cause in his loan deal with St Etienne for them to buy him from us for 3.5m (EUR) (£3m GBP) if they got promoted.

We bought him for a fee "worth up to" 3m (EUR) (£2.5m GBP) which means it'll have been add-on based. We probably paid ~£1.5m up front.
