Launches his ‘big vision’ for a post-Covid recovery. It would appear to consist of a national savings scheme, VAT holidays for business and making the £20 addition to Universal Credit permanent.

To say I’m underwhelmed would be to put it lightly. Why doesn’t he go the whole hog and promise cuts to corporation tax and a deregulation of the labour market in order to ‘create jobs’?

I’ve been prepared to give the guy a chance and thought he did quite well initially at highlighting Johnson’s incompetence. However, if this is the basis of an alternative vision for the country under a Labour government, then we might as well give up now.

Vat holidays will p off those who have already paid.
The recovery bonds , fair do's it will make people think they are doing their bit.
I think he is blowing out of his backside until Covid is over.
Right now he is in a lose lose situation.
At best I would give him 4 out of 10 .

They all sound like sensible ideas. Not sure what the problem is? Were you hoping for a universal basic income or something?
It's a policy but no (visionary) strategy. His answer to what the savings would go into was a woolly "could go into infrastructure for instance".

The corporation tax system needs changing (or scrapping), it's too easy for big business to avoid, yet impossible for smaller businesses to do the same.

It just takes money from smaller businesses and then spreads it out so it ultimately funnels over to larger businesses to benefit from.

It should be like PAYE, with increasing rates as per turnover, or just actully make sure big businesses don't try and avoid it.

I agree that they’re inoffensive, but they’re also fairly bland and uninspiring. It’s as if, at every opportunity, he sets out to be uncontentious rather than visionary.

This was billed as Keir’s great relaunch, where he finally sets out to the British people what he stands for and how Labour’s vision for the country differs from the Tories’. Everything he’s announced today you could easily imagine Rishi Sunak announcing.

Tory in a red suit and tie.
Least that's what I feel he is anyways.

I’d been prepared to give the guy a chance Randy, but I am starting to think that those on here who said he’d just be a bland centrist were right.

What I’d have been really interested in hearing are his views on how (and who) we should pay for all the public borrowing. There’s a real opportunity to set out how Labour would ensure that those with the broadest shoulders bear the biggest burden, whilst we know that the Tories will eventually return to spending cuts, penalising the young and looking after the interests of the wealthy.

But no, we got offered any flavour we want as long as it’s vanilla.

Indeed, and this section really surprised me but in a good way:

"A recent poll shows that two-thirds of British people think rich countries should not have priority access to vaccines, an attitude way more progressive than most MPs would dare to express in parliament."

In the rush to get it done, people are blinded to the fact that we aren't out of the woods until everybody is protected.

The biggest and most appropriate measure is providing proper financial support to Local Authorities again. The Tories have hammered their budgets for a decade.

LA are being forced to hike taxes when the Government have shafted them.
Take bow mate (y)

Tory Cowards, cut budgets and point the locals baying for blood to the local council raising their council tax

This is the issue with polls, if course you would say it should be equal. Ask would you put your mum before Annie from Ghana and see what result you would get.
