Baker is a former Minister for education 1985 to 1989. and before that Minister for Information Technology. He is 88 years old now.

He was brought on to BBC Newnight to be be interviewed about the teachers strike - not quite sure why as its a long time since he was education minister. (34 years ago).

Newnight is a live broadcast, so mistakes can't be edited out.

He was interviewed by Victoria Derbyshire and there was another guest present.

Part of the way through his interview his phone went off, he got it out and tried turning it off. Then put it away - 30 seconds liater it ran again and the same happened and again - then he passed it over the Victoria Derbyshire. It stopped ringing but then started ringing again. Baker smirked and said your phone is ringing to Victoria Derbyshire.

At another point he started interviewing the guest about shortage of physiscs teachers and Derbyshire had to step in and get back control of the interview.

Ended up like a comedy sketch off Harry Enfield.

An absolute car crash. Whoever booked him didn’t do their research - totally gaga and Derbyshire was completely out of her depth - the phone stuff was hilarious 😂😂

Heh! It reminds me of the time a few years ago when I was travelling first class in the quiet zone between Munich and Augsburg and there was an old bloke who couldn't stop his new (presumably) 'phone playing Celebration by Kool and the Gang. He eventually had most of the carriage trying to help him.

Or he had the whole carriage up dancing. One of the two.
