Kids football cancelled

I don’t like being told to mourn and how I should do it.
I agree. As many others have said what better way to show respect to the Queen than 30, 40, 50, 60,000 fans in football stadium observing a minutes silence then singing the national anthem, as West Ham fans did superbly last night.

But to tell a group of 9 year old's then can't play for any hour? Really baffling.

I am absolutely at a loss with the decision to cancel kids football. Is there anyone on the board who can justify this?

How is them spending the morning playing xbox more respectful. It's just really poor.
It’s offiliated by the FA, that’s why

That’s why I said yesterday that don’t rule anything out

Already thought the decision to cancel PL and EFL games was the wrong one but this has just about tipped me over the edge. My three kids had four games this weekend including my 6yo playing his first game which he was so excited for. It's such a big part of their lives, why take away their fun. Especially when looks like the funeral next weekend is likely to disrupt it all again. As said above all I'll be getting badgered for now is time on the screens. Ridiculous

OK sorry I thought you were justifying it. I don't think one person will honestly be able to say it's the right thing to do.

Completely baffled by this decision.

Its OK for kids to go to school but not for them to play football for an hour on Sunday morning.
Couldn't agree more. My son's team have had a long pre-season with a team that looked like folding at one point. The lads were all really looking forward to Sunday. None will understand not playing because someone they don't know has died.

The Queen was the FAs patron and Prince William is the President of the FA, so it's quite a bit different to school or anything else. It is a show of respect from the whole umbrella of the FA, professional and grass roots isn't it for years of service from her, and from their Presidents grandmother nevermind the reigning monarch of the commonwealth.

All the kids who have done pre season, friendlies etc they won't hang up their boots or whatever over missing one weekend. I've spoken to my 2 who are 13 and 11 and they understand why the football has been postponed, so it baffles me adults have trouble getting their head around it.

You've already spoken to them? They not at school today I take it.

No they won't hang up their boots. They will however be spending the day on the xbox and generally p'd off with the monarchy. From how you've responded I guess your kids will be wearing black and watching BBC all day. All power to their elbow.

There really is no reason for it. The fact their rugby playing mates will be out there playing sport will only add to their sense of dissapointment.

what is respectful about not playing and sitting at home?
surely a greater mark of respect would be going out and playing in the Queen's honour?

how many grassroots pitches has she personally provided, how many kids has she nurtured into a love of the sport? It's a huge stretch to talk about her service to the FA. Even her affiliation was purely symbolic, Has she even been to a match for 50 years and certainly wasn't involved in financing, providing pitches, or anything measurable. William obviously has a lot more interest and a little more involvement as in attending some matches. Would make sense to cancel horse race meetings for her, that was her passion and something she was actively involved in.

It's madness....

We can go to work / school / cinemas / theaters / shopping and gym's.

We can basically do anything as 'normal' other than attend a sporting event. I find this frankly ridiculous.

How can they tell us to take a weekend to grieve? I attended a Boro match with my mum and dad 4 days after her mam (my gran) passed away. It's what my mum needed.

The pitches! Didn't even think of that. Bet we still get charged and the operating costs therefore go up as we'll have to rebook.
