Kyle Joseph - Hull

Not 'exciting' and £4 million sounds a lot better than £5 million, but we need energy off the bench. If him and Peart-Harris are more effective / suited to what Kim wants then it's a net positive. When things weren't working out we went backwards with every sub pretty much in the second half of the season, hopefully these two change that.

I'm sure they'll both be utilised more than Kim used Sene and Hansen.

8 goals in 65 appearences for Hull does not scream "this is the forward we've been searching for" (I sincerely hope.) So this is an 'off the bench' signing at £4-5M? Looks like a very expensive bench warmer.

Bearing in mind that he hasn’t signed yet let alone kicked a ball.. it’s rough to judge him on his fee.

He scored 8 goals last season for Hull..
Same as Alan Boksic our top scorer in 01/02 and then there’s..

02/03 Maccarone 9
03/04 Nemeth 9
07/08 Downing 9
08/09 Tuncay 7
15/16 Nugent 8
16/17 Negredo 9
20/21 Watmore 9
21/22 Crooks 10

We NEED goals and goals cost money.. he looks like a cross between Matt Crooks and Tommy Conway.. he clearly suits how we want to play otherwise Kim Hellberg wouldn’t have signed off on him.

So.. he has all the attributes that we need and we’re paying how much those cost. We are going to start the season without Tommy Conway.. this guy can at least fill that spot and play with him when he comes back.

The takes on here are absolutely insane.. we got turned down at £15m in January for Lankshear who only scored 3 more goals than this lad. We can buy an extra 3 goals for less than £10m imo.

Burgzorg cost £2.3m and Kyle Joseph scored more goals last season than Burgzorg did in two. £4.7m anyone?

I think we’re paying what he’s worth right now and if it wasn’t for PSR we probably wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do that.

He looks like a Middlesbrough player.. or at least what all fans want to see in a player. He works hard and he’s got heart.. not sure what else you can ask for really.
If Hull thought he was anywhere near being a premier player they'd have kept him. The ones you quoted up until 2009 were in the Premier League, not a weak Championship, as it was last year.

Hull fans rate him. That's always a very positive sign.

I reckon if he was our 5th signing after already signing other more "exciting" attacking players, no-one would have an issue with it.

If he's our main attacking signing then I understand the concern. But he's not going to be is he?

Pointless judging our summer business till it's concluded.

4m/5m seems a big outlay if he isn't our main attacking signing to me. would rather we got our main targets in then see what we have left to spend on back ups

Maybe. Quite often reported fees are inflated, let's see how much the up front fee is.

But also so is the market, particularly for championship level players. And forwards tend to cost more.

Don't forget we reportedly spent £2.5m each on Hansen and Kante. £3.5m was it on Hamilton? None proven at this level.

Is £4m actually that significant an outlay for that type of player any more? I think we'll likely spend more on other signings.

I've read that the initial fee is around £2.5m, which seems a reasonable fee for a proven championship player.

One thing I think the club has identified as lacking from last season was players with a winning mentality - we pretty much collapsed out if the top two places and failed in the play offs, despite two attempts.

Without naming names we know that some of the team didn't turn up good enough, often enough in that spell.

Aside from his footballing attributes, KJ is a player with a fantastic attitude it seems.

So our strike force next season will be Conway and Kyle Joseph. Surely not. There must be other forwards coming in.
We don't play 4-4-2.

The strike force will vary. It could look like

-----------Joseph---------

Conway--McGree--Whittaker

in 4-2-3-1. If he went back to 4-2-2-2 it might look like:

----Conway-----Joseph----

McGree-------------Whittaker

but there's many different variations that we could play with the players we have. We also have Castledine, Strelec and Peart-Harris.
I've heard from a good source that we are looking for a buyer for Strelec, whether that materialises or not is yet to be seen.
There'll be more attacking incomings. I think Castledine will play a big part this season. He can play in multiple positions across the front 4.

Yeah, know what you mean. I think most of them are good pros but did feel like quite a quiet team at times. Ayling, Conway and Morris aside. Lacking some bigger characters.

Probably because of the Hull connection but in some ways reminds me of the Crooks signing. Can't remember now but I can't imagine anyone was particularly excited by that one either. Yet obviously turned out to be an important player on and off the pitch.
