Lennie

Looking back I definitely appreciate Lennie's time at the Boro. His first season and a third especially was a wonderful time and the start of the premier league season had me believing that we were going to establish ourselves as a top flight club again.

He was very unlucky that Falconer got injured as we were doing well - who could forget Leeds game.

The signings that season tailed off badly - Tommy Wright started well, Andy Peake, John Gannon, sadly even Kammy weren't up to it. Morris and Whyte were ok but were panic buys after our pre season efforts

If Gavin Peacock had signed and Robert Lee not been convinced that Newcastle was closer to London (as opposed to the real reason that they were willing to pay him twice what we were) then it might have been different.

I will always remember games against Wolves, Leeds and Man U (2nd leg) as well as one of my favourites - boxing day at Sid James as some of my best Boro watching games.

Hope it goes well for him at Hartlepool

His promotion season, with the cup runs, remain my favourite Boro season.

I hated the way Lennie was treated in his final season; it really wasn't his fault that we were relegated: he wasn't backed in the transfer market. I think SG's frustration with Colin Henderson's transfer policy was the key factor in his taking full control of the club.

A measure of LL, the man, is his role in actively recruiting his replacement. That takes class.

Blimey, some selective memories on here. I loved the bloke, but there were actual punches thrown on the Holgate during his last season between pro- and anti- factions. It was a real season of drift.

One big memory is his then wife giving the Gazette loads of interviews, including one where she said how hard they'd tried to have kids, but it had never happened. I'm sure Lennie appreciated his sperm count being discussed in the media.

The 91/92 promotion season is one of my favourites as well. Going for it on three fronts.

His last season was looking alright until John Hendrie got injured, the squad was paper thin - and we had some really low crowds - 6k I think for a league game at one point?

Yes, they did get that low. When the misty eyed brigade tell me AP was bouncing every week, I think they can't have been there that often.

We started very well, winning the first 4, but after that, it was about as bad a season as I can ever remember.
