Linthorpe Memories

I have just been messaged from Andy Smith, the man behind Middlesbrough Supporters South celebrated magazine.
He is making an appeal to those of a certain vintage.
Back in the day, in the early 1960s, to be precise, Andy's brother Pete organised a football team when he was at school. It was called Linthorpe Rovers FC and they played on the fields on Burlam Road.
Andy and Pete wonder if anyone remembers the team.
I have Andy"s email and will hook you up with the brothers.

Linthorpe Rovers was set up in the early 1960s by my brother, Pete Smith, (when he was teenager) and played ad hoc games against other teams. We lived in Burlam Road and the players would climb over the six foot wall next to our house (in their kits and boots) to play on Linthorpe School's fields. Another part of the matchday thrill was to avoid the gadgie who was the caretaker and who (if they were unlucky) got his dog to chase the players back over the wall. It would be great if anyone remmbers this or has friends or relatives who might. Andy

There were some fearsome gadgies back in the day .... there was one patrolling Acklam woods was a right ogre.

I'm back in the Boro next week... I'll see what I can discover about the football (y)
