London's NYE Firework display cancelled due to... COVID

London's New Year's Eve firework display has been cancelled again because of 'uncertainties caused by Covid'... bit of a strange decision given everything else seems to be going ahead as normal this year i.e Christmas markets, fayres, and obviously gigs, football and other sport. I imagine a lot of hotel owners will be losing some money now with plenty cancelling.

Apparently people are not to be encouraged to travel from other parts of the country and world to see the event. Logical ?

I suspect they took a look at the cost of ordering the fireworks and the possibility of a winter surge in infections and decided that there were more important things to blow £2.5m on rather than risk a last minute cancellation.

I think the sheer chaos of the night was an issue as well. It's usually absolutely heaving and getting away at the Tube stations is a nightmare.

We were discussing it in the office yesterday and one of the girls has family who travel up from Cornwall each year and she's obliged to go and hates it.

Carrie want a new coffee table like?
I doubt London's regional government will be giving dosh to the inhabitants of Downing Street somehow. Perhaps they are just taking the pandemic a bit more seriously than the Tory national government. You are still required to wear a face covering on public transport here, you know.
