Lukaku

If say, Sterling and Maguire both miss pens in a shootout, let's see who gets the blame.
I think they’d both be equally blamed by the majority of people. There are racists, of course, as we saw during the last Euros. But the idea that only black players get stick is ludicrous, Maguire has received the most stick in the English game by far in recent years.

I don't think I've seen a player get more sustained and prolonged abuse than Harry Maguire in a long time.

He was getting the **** taken out of him in the parliament of Ghana the other day.

I’d like to think overall they will be equally blamed but I’d expect maguire to get more because of the media coverage of his form in the build up to the World Cup and the abuse he’s been getting for the last 18months, though no doubt an element would dish out racial abuse to Sterling if he missed, just like after the Euros. The abuse to Sterling will be worse because of its very nature but I’d be pretty sure Maguire would face more, in terms of
volume anyway.

thanks for the comments - they say birds of a feather flock together.

the new mantra against a person who flags their disgust at racial bias is to abuse the person calling it out -that's to be expected - how else can the perpetrators react to their own ignorance

lets see what the next 12 hour brings- true colours as Cyndi Lauper sang.
I’m one of the first so slam racists on here and call it out. It’s perfectly plausible that people are criticising lukaku’s performance

I do agree the tone of the criticism is different. England have relied on injured players in the past, rooney and Beckham come to mind. The focus shifts onto the manager

If Harry Kane had played 30 mins in the World Cup, he would come under criticism for a similar performance but Southgate would be under the microscope more

Kane gets slated constantly.

He got dog's abuse at the Euros, despite being by far the best English striker around.
To be fair he's normally the only one who Gareth plays. So if you want to slag an English striker, it is going to be him pretty much by default.

Lukaku was poor when he came on, clearly not fit and hasn’t played much for Inter so the sharpness isn’t there. If Belgium had nothing riding on the game he wouldn’t have come on.

Martinez must take the blame for Belgium’s exit, picked old completely out of form players and then was left relying on an unfit player to try and dig them out of the mess they found themselves in.
