Lunch out...Plus my ratings of local places to try

I have had a few parmos as it's usually my goto when back in the north. My last few have been just OK. Not sure if it's me misremembering how good they were had 2 in Yarm recently. The bluebell and on the highstreet in the pub that has the balloon out the back. A bit disappointed with both.

Haha I could have written your list, and it would have been practically identical, even with the ratings and comments

The Ship at Redmarshall does a decent parmo, but the main attraction is their repertoire of them, there are like 30 different types.

Good call on Manjaro's (Ingleby) though, they are better quality or more consistently cooked. I've not found anywhere as good as a Manjaro's parmo though, to be honest, and it's really nice inside and pretty good value.

Staff at Impeccable pig were not great when we went too, and the food didn't make up for it.

Vane Arms in Thorpe Thewles is nice, food is good quality, but not high-brow where kids would be a problem.

Whinstone View is decent, not far from Nunthorpe.

Blackwell Ox in Carlton and Coco and Rum Saltburn are both good for Thai food, not sure about lunchtimes though, only been on evenings.
sounds like we have similar tastes as the only place I havent been on this comment was the Vane Arms! How could i forgot The Blackwell and Coco & Rum! Thai 2 Go over the border is also really good, perfect for a working lunch. Its an ex-cafe so not huge but dont be put off by the exterior the food is top notch, they've just opened one in Redcar too so must be doing well.

Update:

The Vane Arms, Thorpe Thewles was very very good and the staff where fantastic, 8/10. A young girl served us maybe 19/20, very attentive, offered us a plate for the little one and all round nice girl. The training they receive in there must be top notch so fair play. Often its the service what ruins a good place.

Scruffy Duck, Norton - 2/10. I admit this is a harsh review considering I didnt actually eat here in the end but we waited nearly 45 minutes for the food to be told it would be another 20 minutes when we asked how long. This was a Monday afternoon with a lot of spare tables and no warning that there would be a wait for food. I am sorry but over an hour to wait for a bar meal is just not good enough. We cancelled ours as we had to be elsewhere and the our friends stayed, they said it was disappointing at best, especially with the wait.

Finzi's artisan pizza, Yarm. 8/10. Amazing Pizzas and fair deals during the day, we got two slices and two cans of pop for £10 (I think) and their pastries are to die for, highly recommended for a snack on a bench along the river.

The next place on our list is Lebaneat in Yarm so will report back!

Happy eating :)

Bay Horse - Hurworth and Greenhow - Hurworth 9.5/10 exceptional but Greenhow Over rated 6/10
Jet Miners – Great Broughton - Very very good, home cooked and they dont scrimp on the portions 8.5/10
The Masham - Hartburn - Nice vibe, dog friendly inside, never had any issues, constant 7/10 – Keep and eye on the specials board
Manjaros - Ingelby - Go-to for Parmo and more, Sunday dinners also very tasty. Completely different feeling to Middlesbrough one 8/10
White Hart - Hart Village - Not been for a while but old fashioned pub serving hearty homecooked grub
Fox Covert - Yarm 6.5/10, never been wowed
Manor House - Yarm-ish, really like this place for a quick lunch 7/10
Chadwicks - Maltby - Definitely not somewhere i'd go on anything other than a special occasion but food was amazing (and pricey) 8/10
The Falcon - Hilton Portions are huge, definitely do not get a starter! 7/10
Impeccable Pig - Sedgefield - Used to rate very highly but last time we went we where met with rude staff, poor service and lack of choice. Not long after Covid too so you'd think they'd be happy for the custom 4/10
The Dun Cow - Sedgefield - Long time ago but was fine from what i remember 6/10
Spotted Cow - Elton same as above so unfair to score either way 6/10
Tipsy Cow (spot the theme!) - Acklam - My local, always good food and good beer 7.5/10
Rio - Town - 7/10 It is what it is
Turtle Bay - Town - Was ok, prefer to go there for drinks 6/10
Chairman - Bedford street - Really really good and great value 8/10
O'Connells - Bedford street - you wont get better food for the value, perfect if you're already in town or for a stomach lining before the match! 9/10
Fork in the Road - Town 7/10
Persian Cottage - Linthorpe Village - Amazing, somewhere i havent been for a while also but was blown away last time if you're big on meat, would go here over Rio and service was top drawer 9/10
Sutton Arms - Faceby - For me the best Sunday dinner for miles (Just pips Manjaros) 9/10
Treebridge, Old Nunthorpe, solid 7/10 every time
Blackwell Ox 9/10 our go to for Thai food but its definitely on the more expensive side considering it’s a bar meal.
Coco & Rum 8/10 – Really nice setting and great service but I do still think we’d lean towards the Blackwell if we wanted Thai
Whinstone View 8/10 – No better place for food when the sun is shining, if you ignore the smell of cow manure you could be in The South of France!

I've been to the Vane Arms a few times and always had good food and service from the staff. The last time we went was for someone's birthday and they had hired the back room for Sunday lunch. Nothing was a trouble to the staff and they treated the young children with the same respect they showed the adults.

Exactly the same with us, they're trained really well. I do hope the owner gets to see this so they can get some praise!

I'm not one for dining out a great deal, a few times a year is enough for me. This is the only place I've ever had to return a meal and have it sorted out. It was a couple of years ago though.

Eating out has become really expensive. Not sure if that’s or if having 2 children that means I’m more careful about eating out now

Love the Buck Ayton especially their Parmos. The staff are always friendly and you don't have to wait long.
