Luton Ticket Details

Away fans used to walk through a raised passageway between 2 street houses to get intot he ground. Its the most crampt access space I have been to in the higher leagues.
Indeed. Incredibly the mens bogs on the left of that arch are directly below where a family reside. I’ve always imagined how Sarah Beeny would have described this house. “Aspects out to a vast green field and occasionally the aroma of fresh urine permeates up from the ground floor of the property“

No I thought you meant the over pass that goes over the dual carriageway outside the ground
It was actually Redwurzl but yes thought your comment must have misinterpreted what the “arch” is. It is as he and Cardiff say above a hole in the wall between houses which you pass to enter the away end.

But according to the poet John Hegley, those that did stay made their presence known

"Five whole goals to Luton Town
and Middlesbrough not one,
but though their team was five-nil down
their fans were up for fun
and when their consolation came
before the whistle blew
they echoed Luton's 'we want six'
with a modest 'we want two'."
Interesting that Ali, I remember John Hegley from being on TV years ago.
Quite impressed he concocted a poem about the day - guess he's a Luton fan?

Me and my mate did stay to the end. We'd taken a bus with a group we didn't know that well. Shared a crate of lager on the way down then a few pints in the Celtic Club (social club type thing) before the game. During these pre-match drinks we learnt that the bus home wouldn't be leaving until 10pm!!! We were already fully fueled up. Given the result that was a very long day :)
We made into Luton town centre but there wasn't a lot to report. Though my 1970's black & blue retro boro top got admiring glances from the early-evening wine bar crowd.

It’s on the telly innit
Best thing about Luton is the Airport so you can get half way across Europe from it. Utter hole.
Lots of southern based Boro fans. Get to the game if you can don't watch it on TV. Easy train journey from London and Sussex. Bigger support the better

Badonde, Although born in London, John Hegley was raised in Luton and was, as you've guessed, a Luton fan. Met him years later at the Aldborough Festival and thanked him on behalf of those Boro fans who suffered that day for our mention in his poem. Nice fella.

I'm not usually one for slating a location given that Middlesbrough is usually on the receiving end of such slurs but I have to agree that Luton really isn't a nice place at all.

Has a lot in common with home to be fair having had a massive industry die away many years ago and is also a place plagued with drugs and violence.

Going to be my first visit to the ground and going with some mates who are Luton fans though me and my lad will be in the boro end

I don't think anybody will argue that it is a dump. Fortunately the only other reason to go there - the airport- is south of the town.

There are some rough and ready towns in the South East, but they don't seem to the Middlesbrough treatment such as:

Gillingham
Chatham
Gravesend/Northfleet
Grays
Tilbury
Basildon
Southend
Hastings
Folkestone
Dover
Portsmouth
Luton
Harlow
Slough
Romford
Dagenham
Barking
Margate
Hounslow
Erith
Croydon

Only 138 tickets left.
As said earlier in this thread by Cardiffdaffs, this is a top 6 clash, so get yourselves there if you can.

Excellent post, while also missing out Crawley, Hayes, Woking, and a selection of Bucks and Three counties "delights".

Went for the Friday night match, Woodgate's first game, a few years back. Luton had just been promoted and the place was absolutely bouncing including the away end with the low roof behind the goal. It felt very 80s and the best atmosphere I've been to in recent years. I agree that Luton isn't exactly Monaco but their fans were quality that night and the stewards were having a lot of banter with the Boro fans etc. Always thought of them well after that night.
