Macaulay Langstaff

I hope Wrexham go up too but Notts county may well pip them.

And as for Langstaff I’d have him in for sure.

Probably depends on their next match against each other.

Wrexham are top on goal difference with a game in hand.

They're both winning every week.

Chesterfield equalised but had a player sent off.
County went ahead with Adam Chicksen knocking one past the Spireites goalie.
Final Score: Chesterfield 1 Notts 2.

County and Wrexham are definitiely the two in the running for automatic promotion.
Wrexham have two games in hand, but three points seperates the Dragons from top team - the Magpies.
9,700 were at Chesterfield tonight, with almost 2,000 of those being Notts fans.

Chesterfield 1 Magpies 2

* Langstaff elated at the final whistle.

Notts have various "derby" games - Grimsby, Lincoln, Mansfield.....but Chesterfield are in Derbyshire [next door] which is a big factor. Chesterfield were promotion contenders, but have chucked it away.

Langstaff has scored an amazing 25 goals, but Notts arent a one-man-team: there were about 10 games before Christmas where Langstaff hadnt scored but the likes of Cedwyn Scott [Langstaff`s partner-in-crime at Gateshead] with Chicksen and Rodrigues also being pivotal.
Adam Chicksen began the season as a left back - hardly scored a goal in his football career, has been switched to a left-sided winger by Manager Luke Williams. Since then he`s scored 8 - mostly from outside the box. Ruben rodrigues is a midfielder who has a good first touch and turns on a sixpence. Blackpool are amongst a number of Championship clubs scouting him this season.

Adam Chicksen - now 31 - started life at MK Dons and has also played for Brighton, Charlton and Bradford, before joining Notts. In the Summer of 2020, he played a part in a "friendly" between Ilkeston Town and Notts - where he tore a strip off the Robins. He has played a crucial part in Notts rise from the ashes of relegation to non-league football.

* After last nights result - Chicksen has scored 9 for the season.

Crowds - Notts are averaging 7,500 this season and have smashed their own previous National League attendance record: 16,511 against Yeovil on Satrurday 19th November last year. They are the Boro of the National League for away attendances - regularly taking between 1,000 to 2,000 away. They frequently outweigh the number of home fans and some grounds arent even big enough to cater for demand! Amazing really.

Next up: Notts are at home to Barnet - 4 places and 18 points below them.

It appears that the media spotlight has been on Hollywood Dragons this season, which takes the spotlight off Notts, even though they are top of the league. Notts fans are a lot like Boro fans - they`l take the mick out of themselves - with a dark sense of humour, but will fight vociferously to defend their club and its traditions. For them, this season [so far], hasnt been too many "typical Notts" performances - they just keep winning. [Havent we heard something similar before]?

Two more for Langstaff tonight, but also another from Adam Chicksen and Cedwyn Scott. 1-0 to Barnet at half - time: County were sloppy in possession and the oposite of the Chesterfield performance. They gifted Barnet their goal - with Slocombe miles off his line. The ball crept on all fours into the net. County showed their quality in the second half. They contained the shut-up-shop mentality of Barnet, especially after Scott scored the equaliser. It was open day on their defence after that - with crosses and balls being pinged around and across Barnet`s goal.

Adam Chicksens goal was a beauty and by that time - Barnet were looking ragged - using the "Im really injured and want to slow the game down" mentallity. But it didnt work, as Magpies upped their game. Barnet knew they were done after the third and the fourth went in. County needed that - Wrexham drew 2-2, so even though they have two games in hand - County are five points above. Its that close. County fans were singing "**** Wrexham! We`re top of the league" and "you can shove your Ryan reynolds up your arze! - Sideways!". They were happy bunnies.

If County go up - they will keep Langstaff and Rodrigues. If they dont - both of them will be on their way.(y)

"Chesterfield were promotion contenders, but have chucked it away."

Chucked it away? They're in the play off places :ROFLMAO:
No chap.
They were within a whisker at one point of the top two.
You cant drop 12 points out of 18 and expect to stay up there.

Four defeats on the trot doesnt = even play-off form.
There`s lots of games to go - but in the National League, things can change really quickly.
Barnet were on an 11 match unbeaten run [in all competitions] - until tonight.
Wrexham threw two points away tonight.
Even if they win their two games in hand - that puts them only one point above Notts.
The next part is about staminer, consistency and going through the pain barrier. (y)

If we dont go up next year, Langstaff and Mullins wouldn't be a bad pair of strikers to bring in. They know where the back of the net is, be good options off the bench at least IMO

The question might be whether he can jump from the National League to the Football League - the Championship, for instance.
He certainly has it in him. His pace and agility makes him hard to catch. Hes 26 now and scored 27 in 30 outings so far.

We probably couldn't match what Wrexham are paying Mullins 🙂
Actually if I remember correctly from the documentary, he moved to Wrexham for family/lifestyle reasons.

Mullins is rumoured to be on £6k a week which was a higher wage than Cambridge offered him and they are two leagues above Wrexham.

Langstaff I would have thought we will want that wage next season - he is coming up to his peak age. He is going to score more goals than any other player in the history of the National League? Even if Notts County are promoted I am sure there will be clubs above Div 2 seriously looking at him.

Wrexham have a game in hand - but are playing catch-up.
Pressure is on them.
Langstaff has only scored 30 of Notts 84 goals.
Definitely not a "one man team". (y)
