Man City vs Liverpool - amazing stat

For footballs sake hope Liverpool do City. Liverpool have been a great ambassador for English football for 30 plus years. Proper club. City are a manufactured club - Middle East money buying success. Deeply dislike city, deeply dislike the Gallagher brothers , hate the dodgy ground deal they got away with. Come on you reds

They are both great teams but those stats don't necessarily don't give that conclusion. They might just show how poor the rest of the league are.
If the rest of the league had their resources it would be a more even playing field all the better for it.

It's still no Ferguson vs Wenger, United v Arsenal at its best. Maybe that's just the nostalgia talking.
For me that’s because those United and Arsenal players didn’t want the others to win arguably more than they wanted to win at times, whereas these Liverpool and City teams are focused on themselves… if that makes sense?

Stolen from the Guardian:

Since the start of the 2018 season City have amassed 338 points, Liverpool 337. We are witnessing the 2 best sides ever seen in English football.

Over the same period they have contested 3 of 4 CL finals.

- What a rivalry. Have there ever been two better teams going hammer and tongs? Predictions for Sunday? Which team is better?
I can’t see past a Liverpool win unless that is the reds don’t show up.

Liverpool fans have never disappeared.

Check the attendance stats vs City and Utd and you'll soon realise you're talking shiite.
Exactly.

I've never heard about Liverpool putting on ticket offers to sell out champions league games unlike City for example. Liverpool fans were still showing up every week during the weird years of Rodgers and Dalgleish's last stint too.

In the same way that Rangers and Celtic no doubt generally amass a lot of points over a number of seasons.
The recent CL performamces do however show that English football is strong.
Although City and Liverpool haven't contested 3 out of the last 4 finals. One or the other have been in 3 out of the 4 which is a bit different. Liverpool twice, City once.
More impressive is that 5 of the last 8 finalists have been EPL teams.
Was more blown away that over a four year period there’s a cigarette paper between them.

You’re right, Barcelona and Real Madrid racking up 100+ point seasons is more a comment on how poor the rest of the league is.

And for my money, Liverpool of the 80s were probably better, and Ferguson’s United were a winning machine. City and Liverpool of today would possibly beat them both with how the game’s moved on in fitness and technique, but that’s why it’s hard to compare teams of different eras and I don’t think they’re the best two club sides ever. It’s not the best rivalry either because of the lack of edge.

The consistency and how hard they push each other is remarkable though.

”Liverpool have been a great ambassador for English football “

Well they are consistent. Their signing of Luis Diaz has a touch of the Christian Zeiges about it.

Just shows what money can do for you. Not bothered who wins as long as it's not Liverpool as I hate them with a passion.
that means you do care cos want Liverpool to lose, the club I despise the most is Chelsea. Their fans seem to forget they have been in lower leagues. Ken Bates, John Terry, Dennis Wise, Drogba, Mourhinio, Abromovitch a group so easy to dislike.

Love the football city and Pool play, and happy for city even if it is oil money and overspending as their fans stuck with them through the hard years they had

Totally and utterly agree. Outwardly paint themselves as a brilliant club but in everything else they are utter scum in the way they deal with other clubs. Harvey Elliot anyone? Yes City have spent a fortune to get where they are but Liverpool have also spent huge amounts of money on that squad and team.

In the late 70s we had Nottingham Forest and Liverpool for a few years, between them they actually won the European Cup 4 years on the trot. I know Forest only really popped up during the last three of those Euro wins but I would argue that was a better time for British football from a playing point of view

Don't have a dog in this fight but tbh as much as the Liverpool self righteousness gets on my nerves and has ever since the 70's, the City financial distortion which is constantly exposed with little punishment riles me even more.

The Chelsea FA cup tie for me with them under sanctions brought to a head the long term damage that unchecked "wrongun" financial doping can bring.

Splitting hairs to an extent here but there is a difference between criminal dodgy owners like the fraud that got hold of Notts County and the bottomless pockets of sovereign funds like City, PSG and the Jawdees utterly removing any sense of a level playing field for the rest of the leagues they play in.

wasn't it 5 with Villa?

Being the only Boro supporter in a class of Liverpool “supporters” at school made me have an intense dislike of Liverpool.

40 years later I still feel the same. Hope City stuff them.
