McGree haters

I like Mcgree as a player but I don't think he's good enough as a 10. He does a job, and gives us an option. I think Wilder would prefer another striker to hold the ball up but that isn't Forss game and he doesn't yet trust Hoppe/think he is ready. I'd expect Akpom back in as soon as he is fit.

Its not about being a hater he was terrible in midfield, he cant tackle and doesnt track back as a number 10 he's pretty good.

Mcgree is having a great season, I love watching him.

The only criticism is his finishing, he could have had about 7 goals by now.

Scored 2 very good goals so far though, I reckon he can push for double figures.

The touch for his goal last night was sublime - took 2 defenders completely out of the game. Slice of luck with the finish, but he deserved a goal for the touch alone.

Can't understand why he gets criticism personally.

A lad behind me was giving him a right tongue lashing literally seconds before he scored. I like him. Gives us something different.

Managers tend to big up the players they sign; rather than the ones they inherit. Tav was tenacious but he did a funny little run up so. Maybe Riley can get some of Josh's dad's meats and get an injection of Teesside steel. It's a team game, we didn't get bullied by Sheff U this season, though we're yet to visit the Lane.

He won't be playing there when Akpom is fit, in my opinion.

He is, however, another way to go in there for different games against different types of opposition, or when we need to change things in a game.

Options. One area of our squad is fag paper thin so it's nice to have dilemmas across the rest of the pitch.

I am not a big fan I must say. Reminds me too much of Saville. Very similar in that the attacks usually break down when he gets the ball, unless he scores. When he is scoring it shuts me right up though.

Did you notice that , once again, when he was taken off in the second half, we got pushed further and further back into our own box and looked under growing pressure?

Coincidence?

Like I said a few weeks ago, our system and ultimate success lies on McGree and his link up play.
He is without doubt the OSG (official scapegoat) this season. It's weird how fans can't see past their dislike for a player regardless of how he plays. Get behind the lad FFS.

Last night was his best game for us. Links play well and pressed high up. Bit more composure in front of goal and he will get a hatful. Think he has to play as a '10'

He isn't good enough defensively tracking runners or making recovery runs playing as an '8' in wilders system.

The only issue arises if he drops too deep and crooks/jones or giles/mowatt don't get forward on the flanks and it effectively becomes a 3-6-1 so Muniz looks isolated.

Would rather see a striker up there, particularly at home (dropping off, playing as a 9 and a half) and McGree in midfield. However he needs to improve his off the ball stuff.

The other thing that hasn't helped when he has played in the Tav position is we don't have a truly athletic specialist defensive midfielder. So they get past him too easily and it's often straight into the defence.

Mcgree played well in the 1st half, buzzed around and most of our forward play came through him, and took his goal well.
My only issues with him, is that he miss kicks the ball a lot in good positions when shooting.
In the 2nd half he tired as the game wore on, so replacing him with Watmore made perfect sense.

The problem with McGree was solved last night with the goal. He obviously struggles a bit with foot eye coordination and when the Sunderland player moved the ball that fraction of an inch it put it into the perfect position for his foot.

Get him sent to the opticians and get his eyes balanced properly - problem solved, 20 goals a season

I think McGree is a good player and he set the tone from the 1st minute with his closing down as Sunderland tried to play it out from the back.

He’s doing a job in this current role we’ve basically won our 2 games because of him . But we’re meant to be playing 2 stikers aren’t we ? Im Assuming akpom will come back in then mcgree will go back into his previous position where he’s been attracting criticism but hopefully over 10 games in Hel be better for it .

Must admit I'm a fan of his. Technically he's one of the best at the club and his work rate/understanding is improving with every game. Not sure we can afford our number 10 to miss so many chances in the long term mind but providing he keeps converting some of them I'd keep him in there.

Shout out to Mowatt as well - probably his best game for us. Much better without the ball, found space easily in a crowded midfield and his passing is excellent. The ball down the left hand channel for McGree second half was world class. So easy to overhit that.

I don't think anyone has been a "McGree hater" - The negative comments towards McGree centered around whether he was a good enough replacement for Tav.

I really like McGree in his new position.
It's barmy to suggest he's Tav's replacement, they play different roles. It's like comparing Paul Kerr with Gary Hamilton.

Mowatt is more of a general midfielder and once he's up to speed we may see a difference but he needs time.
